Question about Oil Interval Meter
Question about Oil Interval Meter
Hey everyone!
I've got a 13 R58S and it's the one, where intervals have changed to below 10000 miles. I did my first oil change at 1200 miles. I was planning on changing oil at 5K intervals (easy to remember - 5, 10, 15 etc.).
Now here's the problem - my trip computer says I'm still approximately 2600 miles away from my free oil change, but I just hit 5000 miles. Considering how I drive, I'd like to do an oil change now. I was thinking of just doing that and letting the indicator roll into negative numbers until I hit 10000 miles. I spoke to my service manager about it, and he said that if I let the car roll too far into the negative numbers; if any issues with the engine arise, my warranty may not be honored
It doesn't matter that I retain receipts for every single oil change.
What do you guys think I should do?

The dealer oil changers are complementary...
Not mandatory last time i checked.
So if you do oilchanges diy/3rd party, just keep the receipts, showing the miles it was done at, and the oil used, which MUST MEET THE BMW/MINI SPEC.
I know most/many folks do extra oil changes, then never change the counter, thus letting mini do it.
Onve upon a time, when mini dealers were 5 hr drive appart....very few got the free oil changes.

As Zippy said dealer changes are not mandatory.
If you have proof you did more than is required by the service schedule you will not have a problem.
I use the same 5k changes on all of our cars just to keep it simple, and current oils can do 5k easy. More than that should be based on oil analysis.
Exact opposite of what my SA said. Keep your receipts, then have the next one done around the service interval suggested. Not a big deal to go a bit more or less, as long as you do twice as many as MINI will treat you to.
Write the mileage on the receipt, too. I even took dated pictures of doing the oil, and a picture of the mileage. Try questioning THAT, MINI!
