I need help!

So I heard something dragging on the way home. I got home looked under the car and this large black piece was hanging. I unscrewed it and it looks like it's suppose to protect everything underneath the car but, do I actually need it? And, if I do need it, where can I buy one?

I need help!-forumrunner_20130426_174737.jpg

This is for an 06 cooper S. correct.

Looks like you have a manual transmission.

Mounts in front of the enigine on the bottom and connect the to lower portion of the front bumper.

Easy to install.

Thanks

I've had my car for about 2 years, after year one I noticed the brackets and that something that was missing. Haven't replaced it, haven't had problems; let's keep it that way.

I would re-attach it or get another. last year my air conditioner suddenly stopped working and it was due to a small hole in the a/c condenser which is located in the front and it was determined that something, probably a rock, caused the damage.
this protective piece is still attached but evidently the rock got through.it may not stop everything from damaging the a/c and other parts in the front but the odds are better with having one.
my dealership fixed it under warranty ,however, I don't think most dealerships would do the same .
