Automatic CVT (2006 Mini Cooper)

Hi all,

Have a question. I've noticed different RPM's with my 2006 Mini that I don't understand. I'm sure it has something to do with the CVT...anyway...when driving at around 55 MPH the RPM's sit at about 2400 - 2500 RPM's...when it get's up to 60 MPH the RPM's hit around 3000 RPM's...when I get up to 67 - 69 the RPM's are down again below 3000 at around 2700 - 2800. Why would the RPM's go up to 3000 at 60 MPH and then go back down after I get above 65? Interestingly..when I'm cruising at 80MPH on the speedometer I'm sitting at 3000 RPMs on the tach. My mini's speedometer does seem to be off by 5 MPH...according to my GPS (two different models) I'm really only cruising at 75 MPH when the speedometer is sitting at 80 MPH. Anyone else have similar results?

Terry

I thought the '05-'06 MCSa had a 6 speed auto, which could explain the RPMs. Can anyone clarify?
