Close escape with my MINI

I feel so terrible! I was merging into the freeway and did not check my mirrors. A trailer was coming right in andI did not see. I was about to hit it but in time turned towards the shoulder lane. My MINI is just two weeks old and have to say it came very close to hitting the trailer!

Glad to hear it turned out ok with no injury or damages. Eyes open always. Enjoy your new MINI

Thankfully you & your MINI made it through unscathed. I've learned to drive in a hyper-alert state, as many people don't see such a relatively small car. I take a double dose of awareness and defensive driving when I get behind the wheel: mine plus what should be the other drivers' share too. Keep your eyes peeled, and thank goodness for the agility of a MINI.

Agreed! I've spoken before on here about all the folks that pull out in front of me even with my lights always on. Two days ago I turned into a parking lot and a car turned to pass next to me and as he turned his driver door flew open and I just had room to serve right to miss it. When I looked in my mirror he was hanging out the door holding on for dear life at probably 5 to seven miles per hour. Scary then funny as heck seconds apart.

Wow .. That's scary. A similar thing happened to me when I was dropping off my friend. He didn't close the passenger door properly but my MINI was smart enough to alert me immediately
I drove slowly and pulled over when I had a chance! It can be really scary if the doors fly open while driving! Not just for you but also for people driving around!

Sounds like you were very lucky to get such an important reminder without any horrible consequences! Now I imagine you'll be triply careful. Stay safe!

Close call! Same situation happened to me once as I was merging onto a major interstate, not in the cooper though. I had a civic coupe prior to the mini and a tractor trailer wasn't looking and swung over into the slow lane after I had already gotten in, no blinker, nothing. I had to jump into the emergency lane and slam on my brakes. very scary!

I once swerved wildly to avoid a Camtry in the left lane who was changing lanes--right into the driver's side of my Mini! I caught him in my peripheral vision at the last moment.
