Mechanic replaced wrong part -- recourse ?

I took my 2004 mini to a neighborhood mechanic everyone said was great ... And I think he replaced the wrong thing. It all cost $1000 and I had to have it towed to dealer a week later ! Anyone know if I can recoup the money? Thoughts?

Did you call the mechanic and ask? What are the specifics of what was wrong and what the local mechanic repaired and what was really wrong?

I will get details ... Sorry for posting prematurely. I am stressed about money! The dealer mechanic is going to call me today

Yes, talk to the original mechanic and see if he will make it right first. Hopefully he'll do right by you and do the fix he was supposed to do at no charge.
