Gross, please god don't let them stick that into an S or JCW! A 3-cyl should be reserved for a Smart Car and a Geo, not a MINI :(
It does make total sense in a MINI One however.
I'd love to see a twin turbo 4cyl in the next gen
Maybe a single turbo for the S and bi-turbo for the JCW?

Interesting .
and maybe the coolest thing is that it IS a BMW motor (at last)
I just purchased a '13 BMW X3 it has a 2 liter 4 cylinder.
I gotta tell you more power and torque than ANY 6 cyl I have ever driven.
BMW and the other euro mfgs really seem to be getting amazing things done with fewer cylinders .
I would love to see this in a MINI that is closer to Mini size .. and you all know what I am saying here.

From the same Motoringfile article. Apparently, the 3 cylinder will only be used on the Justas.
What about the Cooper S and JCW models? We reported awhile back that those models will be staying with a four cylinder for the time being and we still hold to that. However instead of carrying over the Prince 1.6L engine we wouldn’t be surprised to see BMW’s new B48 four cylinder engines launch with the F56 as well. Those models will continue with the centered twin tailpipe design that has been a hallmark since 2001
