i don't know about vinyl, but it seems possible. just a lot of work.

Plasti-dip would be the most popular route for that black out look. For more info, I suggest looking at the Modification->Interior/Exterior section in your type of MINI

Why not just buy the black grill?
It's ridiculously inexpensive, easy to swap and will hold up much better than any plasti-dip or vinyl wrap.

Yeah and i liked the grills on the cooper s models but my parents were against me driving a stick shift and they also heard about the whole "recall on cooper s models" so they got me a regular cooper but i don't want to look like a phony and buy a cooper s grill and put it on a regular cooper model just doesn't make sense.

OH THANK YOUU!!!!! ive been looking for this! But I'm just afraid that most people would look at it as a cooper s wannabe.... but i really want to do it!! Because im into the whole 'black on black' thing and the chrome grill kind of throws it off but thanks for the link and its not expensive at all!

What does it matter? If you like the way it looks then do it.

outmotoring has the grills and grill trim that will fit, I just checked.

I've never known the MINI crowd to be that way. I've been on dozens of runs and only get compliments.

Dark brings up a good point - the trim has to be particular to the Cooper non-s. If you have any questions, Aaron at Outmotoring is awesome - he'll make sure you get the right parts!

I have the Outmotoring JCW grill for the non-S and Detroit Tuned did the vinyl wrap on the grill surround as well as the beltline blackout and vinyl bonnet-to-boot stripes. I'm pretty sure Outmotoring has both the black grill and grill surround available. Both parts are really easy to swap out. Happy Modding!

Rowoonnee, Albiecrazy is 100% correct. I've been behind some "justas" on curvy runs and it was all I could do to keep up. Go with the black grill and bezel!

Welcome! Tell us about yourself, your MINI, pics of said MINI.

Do your thing. MINIs are all about making them your own. I'd say go for the MCS grill, but I'm thinking a blacked out Justa grill would look cool and unique due to the slats. Either way, it should look nice.

I agree and I think that I have seen this before. How to do it however??? Even as a big fan of vinyl, I think that I would look as getting it painted.

I'd plastidip it. Only $7 a can and a few hours to do, and it easily peels off if you don't like it. You can either mask off the grill or remove and spray it. I was going to do my grill, but the chrome grew on me

This. Remove it and spray it. Not a MINI, but here's a chrome grill that we did:

Wow, that looks great. It looks like it should have always been that way.

I wrapped my chrome grille "slats" on my old R50 with satin black vinyl "blackout tape" from the auto parts store. I thought it looked pretty good and held up well for a couple of years....left it on when I traded the car in on my current MINI and it still looked good then. As I recall it took me 30 minutes or less and just sat in front of the car on the ground and did it.

Interesting option. I'm thinking of trying plasti-dip (if they have a gloss black) or I'll try wrapping all the chrome.

They don't have a gloss black but they do have a glossifier spray. So it would be the plasti-dip black (matte) and then the glossifier over that. I suggest going to dipyourcar.com they sell a lot of different plastidip products and have a lot of helpful tutorial videos.

Plan on doing that same thing to my scoop; using the plasti-dip and the glossifer. I don't want the matte finish because I want it to (kinda) match the black trim rings and grille peices.
