Mini Roof Rack Question

Last week I bought and installed the Mini "Base Support System" for my 07 MCS.

When I went to slide the supplied rubber strip on the rack, I realized it was so tight It was impossible to get on.

Has anyone else used this rack system and ran into this problem?

I just laid it on top and pushed or snapped it in place. Took some effort but works.

We are getting ready to buy the same roof rack base for our 2010, can you guys maybe post up some pictures of the point of contact for install? Our dealer told us they'd have to cut part of our rain gutter to install it, I'm just wondering if there is any truth in this.

yes, you have to cut 4 pieces out of the rain gutter to expose the holes to insert the feet of the roof rack. there are perforations on the rain gutter where you need to cut, so it's really hard to screw up.

i don't have pictures, but just google the mini roof rack. there are hundreds of pictures that show where the feet go. if you look closely in the general area, you really can't miss them.

and if you're worried about cutting your rain gutter, the roof rack comes with plugs to insert in the holes if you decide to remove the rack.

These holes are more like 2 inch slits. Take a flashlight and shine down into the gutter, it took me several minutes for my 59 year old eyes to find the perforations. The kit comes with a plastic card to slide behind to pull or cut them out. I was a nervous wreck but only took 45 minutes start to finish to do install. Took it for a spin and noise at 30 mph was unbearable. Initially was super disappointed the reread directions and noticed there is a specific order for the racks. The front has little protrusions that face down and are engineered to cut down the noise. Did the swap in about 20 minutes and they will now stay on! Noise and turbulence is not a problem. Not going to worry about a fairing.
