Call your dealer and see if they will let you bring it in earlier than the one

year anniv.

When I took my 2010 in for its 1st service it only had about 5000mi but they still changed the oil for free. On it's 2nd birthday visit, it only had 8000mi (total) and they changed the oil again. (I don't drive the Mini much.)

There's only one way to find out for sure. Call the dealer.

From what I've seen posted here, some dealers will provide the free service at the end of one year, even if the MINI's short on mileage. Some have balked at the idea though. I don't know if there is an official MINI USA policy on that. There are several dealers in the LA area, so ask around.

In the Service & Warranty Information booklet provided with my 2010 justa there's a note on page 5 in bold print that says "Change oil at least once a year". If your dealer balks at what he considers an early oil change, just show him that note.

5 mo @ 5,000 miles changed oil & filter myself.

12 mo @ 10,200 miles dealer service, oil and filter.

17 mo @ 13,900 miles dealer service, oil and filter, brake flluid, air filter, micro filter, water pump recall, timing chain tensioner "service action".

They don't reset the CBS at 1 year, so your next service comes up quicker. CBS was showing less than 1,000 miles and a month out yet, but I called and what with the water pump recall, they did it a month early.
