Burning clutch worries

Hey everyone. I have a 2011 jcw with about 12 k miles. Today I was letting my father drive my car while i was in town to visit. My dad has driven manuals all his life so I was none too worried about it. Long story short for what ever reason he was in first gear and had revs at 5500 to 6. Needless to say the smell soon followed. I have high revved before but not like this. How bad is this going to hurt my clutch? I am pretty nervous.

Nothing you can do about it anyway right? I've done this once in my car well over a year ago and it already had 20,000 miles and it's still doing just fine. I wouldn't worry about it too much...

Probably right, I just hate not knowing the damage that was done, last thing I want is dishing a couple grand next year to replace it.

I wouldn't worry about it. Clutch will burn once in a while. As long as you're not doing it daily you'll be okay.

Started off in third? I hate when that happens. Like they said above, nothing can be done. I had a friend do this on a brand new clutch in his BMW years ago, and there was no noticeable problem after that.

I have gotten the clutch smell once or twice and am at 96k now. Now worries, although these cars are not known for long stable clutch life.

I think there's enough clutch that you can get away with burning it once or twice. If you're generally not driving the **** out of it and overrevving I wouldn't worry. The odd incident doesn't kill a car, it's continued abuse.
