Mini cooper factory recall please read

So apparently there is recall in affect for the following MINI Coopers

2007-11 Mini Cooper S
2008-11 Mini Cooper Clubman
2009-11 Mini Cooper S Convertible
2009-11 Mini JCW
2009-11 Mini JCW Clubman
2009-11 Mini JCW Convertible
2011 Mini Cooper S Countryman

the issue is with a water pump for the turbo that has a chip that is causing fires. 12 MINI have caught on fire already.
for the full story read it here:

The list you posted from the news link shows Non S Clubman. However the list from the NTSB site show only 'S' (Turbo) types:

From NTSB report:

MINI / COOPER S .................... 2007-2011
MINI / COOPER S CLUBMAN ....... 2008-2011
MINI / COOPER S CONVERTIBLE ... 2009-2011
MINI / COOPER S COUNTRYMAN ... 2011
MINI / JCW .............................. 2009-2011
MINI / JCW CLUBMAN ................. 2009
MINI / JCW CONVERTIBLE ........... 2010-2011

If this is the case then I think they should have to pay for all of the prematurely burned out turbos if your pump isn't working like it should.

Seems that anyone who's disputing the loss of their Mini will now have irrefutable evidence as to why their Mini burned out. I just saw one on this board a few days ago---

Eh, it's pretty minor if you ask me. The Firestone recall was terrifying. Tires were failing while driving at high speeds causing serious accidents. The Ford Pinto recall was equally terrifying. Cars were bursting into flames killing the passengers. While this is no doubt serious, lets try to keep things in prospective. Recalls are fairly common nowadays, ask Toyota, and that is primarily due to government intervention. Older generation cars didn't have as many recalls due to the lack of enforcement.

Yes, there is a chance, though small, that your car will catch fire. It won't burst into flames and all reports so far show how it's a developing fire and not a combustible one. If you that concerned over your safety you can thwart any serious threat by avoiding parking your car in your garage.

I have a 2012 S Cabrio and thought that the 2011 and 2012 were identical internally. Should I be concerned or did they change the part for 2012?

In my case, the car was re-purchased by BMW NA under Lemon Law. It was BMW's offer after 2 months of investigation, no lawyers were involved.

I just talked to MINI (1-866-ASK-MINI (866-275-6464)) and they told me the Electric Auxiliary Coolant Pump will be replaced. The notices will start going out in February and will be timed so the dealers will have the parts and time to do the work.

My MINI was in for unrelated service on Monday. Shame they didn't pounce right on this.

I have seen conflicting cutoff dates posted on the web so I called 866-ASK-MINI 866-275-6464. The cutoff for the 2011 Clubman is Oct 2011. If you have a question I would suggest calling them. Have the last 7 of your VIN available. My dealer has very little info available at this time.

I called my dealer and they said they are not doing any repairs until the owners of the affected vehicles get a notice in the mail. I guess we'll have to wait.

I've got the same question. Just picked up the new 2012 S Cabrio on Monday. I'm guessing they've made a change - but that means they knew about this long ago.

It would appear that a change was made about half way through the 2011 model year. I base this on the Oct. 2011 recall date for most models.

I have an 09 Clubman S. How do I find out if mine was fixed? If not will they still honor the recall?

I called my dealer and they said April 2009 build is the cutoff. Mine was a July 2009 build that was registered in Oct 2009 as a 2010.

So you should be good, wasn't it from that date in 2009 til the 2011 date? It was so long ago I don't remember. I know my car is a June 2010 build and the pump was replaced. I would be supervised your car has not had it done but it is good to check.
