looking for mini what should I know

years that I should avoid? engine problems? transmitions etc...

ive been looking at 2006 and newer possibly automatic, this is gonna be for my fiance.

From everything I've read and heard, 2005 and 2006 R50 5 speeds seem to be the least troublesome of ANY MINI. I'm not sure about the Agitronic transmissions, but I've heard of trouble with the CVT. I don't pay as much attention to the second generation because it doesn't affect me, but they have their own issues, to be sure.

At any rate, you should realize you are buying a European car - an English one, at that. It's not going to be a Honda or GM, but the driving experience more than makes up for that to me.
