Hi all.
I am in the break in period with a '14 CMS and have been paying close attention to this topic.
Im 300 miles in and have been staying below 4500rpms and trying to vary speed/RPMs on the highway.
My question is, if you own an automatic S, is it preferable to keep the transmission on manual shifting or keep in full auto. I feel its hard to vary RPMs on automatic.
Any advice?

Peace!

I just replaced my engine with a reman two months ago. Luckily i have a best friend who is engine machining certified. I dont know the technical terms. We rolled to motor over without the plugs hooked up for about 30 seconds five times and then let it sit for the night. The next day we ran it easy until it got up to operating temp and then let it cool down. Did that again, and let it cool. We then changed the oil. After that his advice to me was to run it like i would drive it all the time. Changed the oil again at 500 miles and now i have about 2000 miles on it and all is ok. I agree with the theory that its hard to confirm one way is better than the other though. Just my experience.

Get in and drive

We ask the same question about break-in of the car. We were told to drive as we normally do. We had no trouble driving that way. Enjoy!

i believe in a "break in period".....that makes sense to me......time for parts to mesh and wear together.......

what i dont believe in is a "break in procedure"....i dont buy into "drive under XXXRPM for XXXXX miles, to this at XXXX miles, sacrifice a goat, **** in the gas tank, add Vunderlube to motor oil or your car is going to explode... "

buy the car, and drive it like you normally do from day 1........never given me an issue.....nor have i ever seen any definitive evidence that any specific "break in procedure" is benefitial over any other procedure.........

I've always figured the people manufacturing the car know more about this than I do. It has never caused me heart burn to follow the factory recommendations. Works for me since I've never had an engine or drive line problem since I purchased my first car in 1952.

never babied one, I want my rings to seat well and not burn oil it's entire life. I think the biggest rule is "don't keep the same RPM" , don't use cruise control , change the oil at 500 or 1K miles.

I laugh because my MC a 4 stroke Triumph (made in UK ) I hit 108mph 1 mile from dealership lot and 10miles on the clock. That was 3 years ago, runs great.
