Oh Deer!

Well it finally had to happen: I've been taking the same mountain road into work for the past 18 years and often spotted deer crossing the road or grazing off to the side. Monday morning we had our first encounter:

I was driving into work at 6 am in a somewhat thick fog and as I came around a descending bend, there was the world's dumbest deer just standing there. It happened so fast I didn't have time to brake. Up over the car and straight into Deer Valhalla she went. I was more PO'd than shook up. I knew right away this was gonna cost me a lot of money. $5800 in repairs, but fortunately it's covered under Comprehensive and I only have a $100 deductible. Still, I'll be without GERMINI for a couple of weeks at least. And I am not at all impressed with Traveler's Insurance's laissez-faire attitude about all this. I should've stayed with Progressive....

I almost wished it had been totaled as I've had my eye on a 2012 for a couple of weeks now.

Ouch!!! Back in '89 I hit a deer with my '85 Fiero. Totaled the deer and the car. Deers need to be regulated or at least required to stay off the roads at night.

Sorry about your Mini. And I would be freaked about hitting a living thing, although like you, probably highly annoyed at the deer! LOL Hope the repair goes quickly.

Sorry about your car. I hit one about three years ago. I really understand the term "deer in the headlights". I'll bet you do too now! What is your issue with Traveller's? I just switched to them from Progressive also.

Update - no real complaints now that the repair is done. Traveler's covered everything, even the extra $2000 worth of damage they found after prying off my crushed bonnet. My body shop people said they had no problems getting the extra work authorized and they got their checks on time. My complaint was that they were very slow to contact me. In fact, they only contacted me once after taking the car in for repairs. That was to tell me the car was done. I got a little spoiled by Progressive maybe. They were continually checking up on me when one of their insured drivers hit me. They not only fixed my car but kept upping the ante for my "pain and suffering". Unfortunately for me this time, the deer didn't stick around long enough to give me her insurance company.

And that deer on the badge looks exactly like what I remembered in that split second encounter. But He was a She.

Sorry about your mishap, but glad it worked out well. What's interesting here is the fact that your considerable damage "only" totaled $7,800, but there have been recent accident postings on NAM that showed much less damage and the cars were totaled.
