Will the New MINI be a Classic someday?
Hey guys... wanted to get your take on something I was thinking about today.
What is your opinion- will the new (2001-current) MINIs be desired classics in 20, 30, 40 years, and be appreciated like the Classic Minis are today?
I plan on keeping my MINI until the wheels fall off- and then rebuilding it.

MMM thats hard to say. That is like asking if it was 1959 would the original MINI be a classic. It is hard to tell. I really that all gasoline cars of today will be classics because there is going to be a day when we will see alternate fuels and the dino juice will no longer be our primary source of go power and that will make anything with an internal combustion engine an instant classic. Or next year the world ends and it won't matter.

They are to me as well
You're probably right about the gasoline thing. But I'm just looking for opinions, not definite answers- as, well, that's impossible to know! MINIs are so different from any car on the road, so if I had to guess, yes they will be classics because they're so unique, just like the "Classic" Minis are today.
I'd love more opinions though.

I don't think so. Don't get me wrong I LOVE my MINI. I just doubt that very few of the cars made today will be as loved. Plastic parts are a problem for example. Try replacing some part on a car from the 1990s. What will that be like when the car gets to be 30 to 50 years old? Computers and the software that make the cars run - what happens when they are not supported? Part of what makes cars so great now are the very things that would hender them from becoming classics.
