Anybody used Tupp paint pen?

Hi,

Has anybody used Tupp Paint Pens? I did a search for Tupp in this forum but couldn't find anything.

Thanks.

Curious as well. They're on sale at minicarparts.net at the moment, and was thinking of picking some up for a few little scratches.

Can't find reviews or information, and it's also listed that the latest compatible paint year is '06... really don't know how much the paint has changed, if at all.

Yeah...that's why I was asking. But they want $10 for shipping though.

Instead I bought the touch up paint from automotivetouchup, in a bottle. But the color didn't match that well. I applied two coats of it on a white piece of paper. It looks darker than my actual Mini. I E-mailed them to ask them what I'm doing wrong. But their response time has been slow. I don't think I'll buy from them since their support sucks. Also, I didn't realize I needed to buy the clear coat as well.

The pens are easier to use - but there is no holey grail - a touched up spot looks like a touched up spot. I mainly do it for rust protection rather than looks.

I guess you can never truly touch up a scratch unless you repaint the section entirely, eh?

When it's something so tiny though, the pen, while visible, will be less noticeable than a scratch, right? How "touched up" does it look? Have any photos?

Recap of what happened last week: I sent an E-mail to automotivetouchup about the laser blue not matching well with my Mini. I tested the touch up paint I received on a white piece of paper, and even E-mailed the picture to them. The person from automotivetouchup told me to test the paint on the test card that I received with the paint. I told him I didn't receive a test card. But I did receive an orange post card that came with the package. The post card is just an advertisement for them. It has a shiny finish on it.

This morning, I received an E-mail back. The guy is asking me to test the paint on the orange post card. This makes no sense to me! How is that going to look?? Laser blue paint on an orange post card!!?

test cards are glossy so the paint does not soak in, like it will perform on the car . . . and since they are selling you the same paint system as on the car from the factory (base-clear) yes you need to apply the clear as well if you want a correct job. This is explained in the instructions sections on their page. Base color has no gloss and no strength - that comes from the clear coat over the top. You can buy single stage t/up paints but note the factory kit comes as two components as well.

Paint alone is just the beginning of a good chip or scratch repair. Look into http://www.langka.com/ or http://www.drcolorchip.com/ for chip repair "systems" that deal with the dreaded blob.

I've used Automotive Touch Up with Langka for years and have always been happy with the finished product but it does take practice.

p.s. ATU sells the paint in bottles, pens and rattle cans (and bulk) depending on your needs and preferences.
