Next-gen Mini on autoblog
I checked around, don't think this is a repost on this forum...

Mini may have just released its own "spy photos" of the new Coupe, set to go on sale later this year, but now, our cameramen have spotted the next-generation volume model Mini out on the street. As you can see, the next Mini Cooper is expected to grow in size a bit, if only to make room for a smaller entry-level car that's coming down the pipeline (previewed by the Rocketman concept from this year's Geneva Motor Show).
While the Mini's overall shape won't be changing, we can expect the front fascia to take influence from the design seen on the Countryman crossover. Moreover, the new platform that underpins the Cooper will be shared with a new series of front-wheel-drive BMW models. The biggest changes will, of course, be found underhood, where we can likely expect an updated range of turbocharged and naturally aspirated four-cylinder engines.

Also, this was the spy shots of the Coupe they published:

Mini has just released the first official details on the company's upcoming Coupe. In Europe, the two-seater will be available with a range of diesel and gasoline engines, spanning from a 1.6-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder good for 122 horsepower to a turbocharged 1.6-liter four pot with 211 ponies. In between, a 2.0-liter turbodiesel four-pot with 143 horsepower and 225 pound-feet of torque is available, as is a more modestly turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder good for 184 hp. As you might expect, our cousins across the pond will be able to choose between four trims, including Cooper Coupe, Cooper S Coupe, John Cooper Works Coupe and Cooper SD Coupe.
Mini says that its creation should serve as a kick in the pants for the compact sports car segment, but we're guessing that the company is also hoping the Coupe will do the same for the automaker's sales. So far, there's no word on pricing or availability, but with hard details now out on the table, odds are it won't be long before buyers will be able to get their hands on a set of keys.

Maybe its that the headlights remind me of what Ducati did with the 999, which almost all the hardcore fans didn't like.

Personally I think the style of the headlights is part of what makes the mini 'look'. Not to say that all change is bad, but changes to the main styling cues I think are bad.

I completely agree, the style of the lights on the new MINI create a look that we associate with MINIs. I really hope they don't change it. If they will look like the ones in the camo pictures that it doesn't look like I'll be buying the 3rd Gen any time soon.

I think it's gotta be covered up... I hope. It's the one unattractive feature. Lets hope it's the camo covering something new in the design while allowing for enough light from the center of the bulb.

I'd agree with that, I think the headlights are just to throw us off a little. At least the overall design hasn't really changed.

No, the roof doesn't retract and isn't removable. Yes, the rear spoiler deploys around 50 mph. More information at motoringfile.com if you are interested.

The original idea was to kind of diffuse the lines of the car to make it more difficult to see what it was, but nowadays its more of a "hey media! check me out, I'm a prototype!" banner. If you read car blogs, you'll see this type of deal like every day.
