The Sh*t my Wife says
Anytime my girl friend brings up the MCS and mods, I only have two responses, 1) I usually point to her $500 purse and closet full of clothes and 2) I immediately bring up the 7 months I recently spent in Afghanistan. I win every time.
Granted, any time she wants anything, she brings up two thing, 1) the mods I've done on the MCS and 2) the 7 months she put up with me being in Afghanistan

OK..."guys" US Girls L@VE our MINIs just as much...my MINI (Molly) is taken care of AND paid for by ME!!
My Husband was even surprised at how "little" I spent on her 3rd Birthday Present (Wheels)...Check them out!!
Nuff Said!!

You know, that was the name I wanted to give Benson because I knew of my wifes desire for that car but when I suggested it, she said "don't **** me off". I knew right then and there, end of topic.
She really wants a Bentley.

Here's the opposite situation. I have the Cooper, my boyfriend has the "Snoozaru" a 2009 Imprezza non turbo, the most boring car ever created. He recently decided that the MINI is "our" car and because it is "our" car he gets to mod it. Why? Because it's the only thing that keeps him sane with his god awful mistake of a lease.
This month he put the Aero grill on the car and next month she's getting a pulley

This ones easy for me, I picked an SO that would never say a damn thing about such things.
This goes both ways, we simply don't inflict opinions on each other's indulgences/hobbies. Over 10 years and thats working out great.

Snoozaru!!!
that's priceless!!
My wife's a car lover through and through, but she's always owned the 'practical' car (Honda, Subaru, etc). However, when I went to trade for my first MINI, her only stipulation was 'you must be able to fit both dogs (greyhounds) in it.' She wasn't convinced that an R56 would do it, but the R55 fit the bill. We then joined the local MINI club, and went to our first MOTD, followed by MTTS/MITM. It was during this time that she declared "I want a MINI convertible".
In October 2010, she took delivery of her 2011 R57. A week later, she had her first mod (sway bar). Now, she wants rally lights!
I like that I can mod my car as I please (or not), and she pretty much goes along with it. I think she watches what I do, and decides whether she wants to do the same or not
Oh, while she was signing the papers for her 2011, I was looking at a 2010 R55 JCW on the showroom floor. We took it for a test drive, where she declared "This is hot. You buying it?" Needless to say, I took it home.
She's a keeper, for sure!

Since my MCS is paid for and we still have monthly payments on her Enclave, my wife is pretty good about my MINI mods as long as they are not too much money. If I try to go overboard she will throw the "other car" card, suggesting that I sell my '36 Chevy Street Rod if I want to go crazy with the MINI. As much as I love my MINI I can't let go of that old Chevy (have had it 20 years now)
Mine:

Her's:

We got her's less than a year ago with 11k bone stock, so far, tein super street coilovers, supersprint race exhaust, strassentech lip, clear markers, jcw r95, euro tails, jcw cf mirror caps+trunk handle, gp rear+gp license insert, formula one ceramic tint, 6k hid, 6k hid fogs, 6k hi-beam, dinan intake, m7 strut brace and a whole lot more!

I don't want a MINI.
My wife has picked the last 4 cars...
07 R56 MCS (traded in for CM)
07 R52 MCS (got rid of the 07 Beetle Vert; still have this)
08 R55 MCC (Won at MINIs On Top; returned it, her ticket)
11 R60 MCS ALL4
Now she wants the Roadster.

I cannot quote the last few posts, but in general my response is along the following lines...
1. the ladies rule
2. it would appear that several of the gentlemen have either demonstrated extraordinarily good judgement in love, or been extraordinarily lucky!
They are after all just cars, but for those of us that have the disease they are a passion and a source of joy. To have partnered with another who either shares the disease, or who has such deep understanding to respect what they do not share, is a boundless blessing.
Here's to our spouses!
With a grin, and with profound sincerity, and with my own dear wife in mind...

Too funny
I admit at first I thought of cars as appliances - point A to B. Then my husband got me into autox after I bought my MINI. Took a while to start mods and I hated forking the money over but I haven't been let down by a purchase yet
Next up is the JCW chip and an exhaust...getting to the point of wanting more oomph!!!
I, too, have adopted this stance. I have everything delivered to work and immediately destroy all the evidence.

LOL he said I'd just wine about it because it's so low and the dealer couldn't work on it and I would scrape it everywhere. But my xB was lowered 2 1/2 inches.
Only complaint was I had to buy a new jack that would fit under it.
Great thread!
I've been very fortunate that my wife has been fine with the MINIs and related mods. She only dislikes the harsher ride of the R53. But she really likes the R56 JCW.
Remember guys - most performance mods are not visible. Out of sight, out of mind! I see an R56 JCW suspension coming in the near future

She's already tried, looked at a new set of race tires for me (for my previous car), but parts are going to have to wait until she can find stable full time employment. Yeah, I'm thinking I found a keeper
