Mini Paint thick like BMW?
I'd guess MINI uses half a layer. None of the cars I've ever owned have had problems with paint constantly chipping off of the bonnet from normal highway driving. But the MINI's hood is more potmarked than an acne ridden teenager.
I doubt that it's 7 layers, unless you include rust preventative, undercoat, pigment, clear topcoat, and whatever else is on there, but the non-metallic paint on my MCS looks thicker and richer than the typical Honda's. There is a 12-year rust-through warranty on MINIs.
I would say it's thin and brittle, like the paint on the two M Roadsters that I've owned.
Just like on the BMW's, the paint on my MINI sees a rock coming, and jumps out of the way, I believe.

This was one of my complaints about my 370Z. Not only was the paint thin, but it was soft. So rocks didnt only chip the paint, but the light ones would even leave indentations like the paint was made out of clay. At 11,000mi, it looked worse than my wifes Scion tC with 70k miles.
