How do you do drive-ins in your MINI?

With the low roof and high back seats it can be a bit awkward finding a good way to enjoy a drive in movie. Without cheating (bringing chairs), what's your best way to position the car to enjoy the show?

Haven't been to a drive in movie in 30 years.
I think the closest one is in Ft. Lauderdale.

There are a couple of drive-in movies near my house. We don't take the MINI, we take the MGB, it's nice with the top down!

I go to a regular theater or movie tavern instead, better sound, more comfortable, A/C (summer in Houston is brutal), oh and beer .....yeah regular theaters winout over the novelty of drive-ins for me every time.

i would suggest reclining the seats, as long as no one is in the backseat, that should help quite a bit. you would want to park farther away as well, too close and you won't be able to see the upper half of the screen.

I've lived in 12 cities in my 29 years on this earth, and I've still yet to see a drive-in movie in person.

My friends and I used to put on awesome "drive-in movie" parties in college though. Our apartment had a tall-fenced tennis court, and we'd zip-tie white bedsheets to the far end. Put an LCD projector and PA system at the half-court net. Have a party outside and play zombie movies all night for halloween or whatever. Great fun.

1. Pack cooler full of favorite snacks and beverages.
2. Load cooler and lawn chairs into MINI's boot.
3. Back into drive-in parking space.
4. Open hatch.
5. Deploy lawn chairs.
6. Reach into cooler in the boot as necessary.
7. Enjoy!

the drive-ins in LA were all closed by the 80'as. some were used on the weekends for swap meets. go see "the last picture show" next time it's shown at the drive-in!

Its not about the sound....the a/c or anything else. Its the experience of it. The sound is fine nowadays because its piped in via your car radio. Its as cool as I want it inside my Mini, and I can drink beer, eat and talk as much as I want with my family. Besides....no one really goes for the state of the art movie experience....it's the camaraderie. I know almost everyone there and it's a social thing in my town of Iuka, MS. This town would freak out if the Drive-In closed. But the best part is......it's $10 per car. If you can get 10 people in the car it's $1 a head. That's what I'm talkin!!!

Um, are you saying you both slug it out at the movies?

If yes, then I understand as I'm sure most girls don't find anything romantic about "Battle LA," the last movie I saw in a theater!

Love that movie. I bet everyone was expecting the screen to be blown away during the scene where the drive in movie screen gets blown away. Oh the irony that would be.

Well said We've got one Drive-In left, about 40 minutes from my place and we usually get there about 3 times a year (we have to deal with the 4 seasons, so it's only open for 4 1/2 months). When I was a kid (I'm 52 now) all the Drive-In's showed crap movies, but it was still a blast. Now they show the same movies that are playing in the theatres, but as you said, it's not about the movie.......it's about hanging out with a few other gear heads or your family and just enjoying the experience.

As for the OP, how do I see?...............put the top down

It did get a bit intense there for a while, great memories.

Hey, will there be a repeat of the EIM drive-in event this year?
