Trailer towing with the MINI

I'm new to this forum and have not purchased my first mini yet.I have a question about trailer towing. Can a Mini tow a small light duty covered trailer. I love the mini,( i guess if i did not i wouldn't be here.) and have always wanted one.I also fly RC warbirds and i now cart them to the flying field in my pickup. What i am looking for is the best of both worlds, sports car that can haul my planes and a cool Mini to drive when not going to the field.I am not interested in the larger Mini i like the two door hardtop with the turbo and the 6 speed standard shift. Thanks

I have seen a number of Minis towing small trailers - so definitely possible. Many choose the motorcycle cargo trailers as they seem the right size for a Mini. Harbor Freight sells a frame only kit, so you could build something especially suited to your planes. I'm going to tow a trailer up to N. Carolina in a few weeks for the first time.

Check out page 2 of my gallery. You'll see pics of my '06 MCS with the Minidomore trailer hitch and the trailer I built from Harbor Freight parts and other stuff. I just got an '11 MCS and will be getting the MINIFINI hitch system installed in a couple of weeks so I can pull the trailer. The MINI can tow about 1000lbs.

I'm not one of those who always says "USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION" but I have read several posts on what can be towed and you would be surprised. There are some pictures in some of those threads you might be interested in. Good luck on your decision.

I tow a International Fireball sailboat with my Mini S, 6 speed manual. The boat and trailer weigh about 500 lbs. I just drove from Western Colorado to Tampa and back and averaged 30 mpg. I don't do this all the time and I know the boat is back there, but I set the cruise control and drive the speed limit. My other option was to drive my Grand Cherokee which gets 16 mpg pulling the same boat.

Go for it!

I installed a MINI DO MORE hitch on my '09 R55 and it was fairly simple, along with the wiring. I am thinking of trading in for a Hampton and was wondoring how hard the MINI FINI hitch was to install.
