Paint question...
Paint question...
So there's a set of white wheels on Ebay...nice price...but they're your plain white that doesn't come close to matching my 2011 Pepper White R56.
The new bad boy has black wheels but I'd LOOOOVE to have a set of matched white wheels, complete with new tires, to swap out when I need new tires (OK, so I only have 500 miles on the car but can you forgive me for being excited??).
Question: Can I purchase a pint or two - no, not Boddington, but it sounds good - of Pepper White paint to hand over to a paint shop to spray these bright white wheels a cool Pepper White?

short answer - yes
longer answer
true - wheel white is Aspen White, same as that used on the white top
{899 64706 Miscellaneous Aspen White 02 - 08} data was pulled in 08 but remains the same thru 10 last time I checked
Pepper White - unless they changed to formula for 11 has color code
850
{850 64546 Exterior Pepper White 02 - 08 }
you should be able to verify this by a sticker in the engine compartment
with the paint code a paint shop can go to an automotive paint supplier and buy the "base coat" in this color. You could buy it too but most paint shops are going to want to get it themself for various reasons one of which may be having their own on-site mixing system. Base color comes as a concentrate and must be 'reduced' for spraying and the type and amount of reducer depends on the equipment, temperature, desired dry time and other factors...the painter must have the right reducer...if you bring a brand of paint he's not using there's a problem
Check the cost tho ... there's prep, then spraying with base coat color then the clear coat . . . check the cost b4 you buy those wheels unless you are willing to pay more for the paint job than you do for the wheels. After my first experience with a quality auto painter for a small job (a classic Mini bonnet) I decided it would be less expensive to learn how to shoot paint and buy the equipment - fortunately I have access to a full automotive paint booth too. But I digress
you could even buy rattle cans and DIY . . .

a rattle can of color and clear will run about $20 each
2011 Mini All Models, 12 oz Aerosol Spray Paint :Pepper White 850 $19.95

WOW...that was thorough...thank you! Very good point about the expense and I'd definitely get some price comparisons before dropping off the wheels and then getting sticker shock later. Thank you, too, for the link...another viable way to go for sure.
Because the car is Pepper White with a black top, I've even considered spraying the wheels a red or blue - with *glitter* to really change up the appearance.
But I do so love the idea of having a set of non-black wheels at-the-ready when my first-gen tires wear out.
Thanks again Capt_bj!

Just repainted my wheels and Aspen white is the roof color but not the wheel color, the white for the wheels is a little dirter white than the roof.
That being said I did paint mine Roof color (Aspen White ) and think it looks better than the orignal wheel white.
