Western MA wannabe

I am champin' at the bit to buy my first MCS, but don't know where to purchase. I live about 50 miles north of Hartford. I have read so many horrendous reviews of New Country Mini in Hartford that I am reluctant to return for purchase after a relatively pleasant chat and test drive there a few weeks ago. I've been driving Volvos for 20+ years and, aside from wanting to have fun, I am fed up with the enormous cost to maintain; even by simply following the maintenance schedule I end up paying 1G/year to keep my car happy.

So I'm looking for an honest reliable dealer with a good shop that will provide the loaner on the rare (?) occasion the car needs to be brought in. Also, any opinions on the various warranty plans offered? With my Volvo history, the prolonged maintenance program for $1600 seems like a steal.

I've heard good things in the past about MINI of Peabody. I know that's a bit of a drive for you, but I drive 2.5 hours to my dealer in order to avoid the one that is only an hour away.

Inskip is in RI, but I don't know much about them.

Good luck!

I purchased my Mini from New Country in March '08. My opinion of them falls in the "neutral" territory. The sale experience was OK. There were no deals to be had at that time, so haggling was minimal. The ordered car arrived on time, was prepped well, had gas, and off I went. They even sent me a refund check for a math error on the final transaction (Did I feel stupid!).

I've only been back for 2 annual check-ups and am due for a third in March. After that, I expect that I will find a local shop for further service needs.

I am about 30 miles north of Hartford.

Do you have to buy new? There are plenty of very well maintained used cars available, especially 05-06 R53s. And as for service, we have one of the best MINI repair shops in the area right here in Worcester (Greasy's).

When you do buy, check out massmotoringclub.com. We are working on a bunch of driving events for this year, as well as other social gatherings.

Thanks for the tips. Paging through the threads I came across a place in Cummington, not all that far, called Mad House Minis. Seems they specialize in restoration. Would anyone recommend forgoing the extended warranty deals and simply head up there for the routine and unusual.

I must admit, I am damaged goods after owning Volvos for so long. I can't imagine not bringing a car in twice a year and not spend a fortune at each visit. I loathe the thought of repeating this pattern and, even worse, doing it with a lousy shop.
