Move from MCS to MC?

Has anyone here first owned a MCS and then bought a MC as their next car (using the MCS as trade in)?

I have an '03 MCS (original owner) and I am thinking of getting an 08-10 MC using my MCS as trade in. I'm looking for better milage and a smoother ride (no run flats).

Am I sacraficing the power of the S for the smoother ride of the base MINI?

Thanks for your thoughts...

It would be very hard to give up the S acceleration! Especially knowing that you could always dump the runflats on your S.

I would think you would be going from more power to
better mileage AND a lot less service problems.

I did (temporarily). When my 2008 MCS was rear-ended and being repaired I ordered an '09 MCC. It was during the high gas-prices and my MA thought they'd have a non-S for me to test-drive before my order came in and since this was to be my third they were willing to put it into inventory if I "needed" an S. Long-story-short they never had one for me to test, my MCC came in, and I took delivery. BIG mistake! I tried to be happy with it but after 4 months I couldn't take it, got rid of it and got my current '09 MCS. I don't regret the loss that I took because at least now I'm happy with my car. The justa isn't a bad car but if you're used to the "suck you into the seat" power of an "S" you won't be happy.

My 2¢ - buy an S, ditch the runflats, and enjoy life. The pennies you would save on gas would be just that. You'd be better to skip a soda each day or something else that would put more money back in your pocket.Good luck with your decision...keep us posted.

When I bought my car, I was going to buy a MC. After optioning the car up to the way I wanted, I found most of the stuff I wanted came standard equipment on the MCS and I would have ended up paying more for the MC than the MCS with more equipment.

Not trying to discourage you from doing what you need to do, but be careful how you configure your car. You may be sacrificing more than just the power.

I did it. I didn't trade mine in, but after getting rid of my MCS I decided I missed having a MINI and wanted a convertible. I couldn't afford to buy a S convertible, so I picked up a used MCC. I'm fine with less power. I won't lie - there are sometimes I miss it, but overall I'm OK with a base Cooper. Any regret goes away when I put my top down.

I ditched the runflats even with my MCS. I had some fix a flat and a cigarette lighter powered compressor, but as it turned out I never had a flat, sooo, maybe I got lucky.

I've always thought about doing this, but haven't heard enough about it.

I like having the little extra umph when needed, but had loads of fun driving a justa. IF you don't low shift, they can still be plenty peppy, and still remain a hoot to drive. . .but, it still lacks the lil kick the s has. Either way, do what makes the most sense to you, you will still have a fun vehicle!

New MCS has a much softer, compliant and comfortable suspension that previous generation. Buy R56 MCS.
