One Month in My MINI

Well, technically it's one month on Monday, but I brought my MINI home four weeks ago today. And I gotta say, my month of MINI ownership has been fantastic. I knew that I'd have fun driving this car, but holy schnikies, this much fun?! Granted my history of car ownership isn't glamorous, but I've never had so much fun on four wheels. Yeah, there are faster cars, but none have the character of a MINI, and few handle like it. Supercharger whine + exhaust burble = fewer sound like it.

I've even found that maintenance is more fun: washing, waxing & my novice detailing routine is enjoyable to me. It goes without saying that I look for the long way to wherever I'm going, all in the name of more time behind the wheel.

Along the way I've made some great new friends online & via the Bay Area MINIs club. Between NAM & BAM, I found places I don't have to hide the glee of MINImania. The enthusiasm & friendly spirit of fellow motorers is a huge plus of ownership/fellowship. We have a unique & great owner community, one I'm proud to be a member of. Can't wait for MOTD '11, and a chance to meet more of us!

Just had to share the happiness, and now that I have an hour to kill 'til college football, think I know exactly what to do.

Happy Motoring!

Ahh I can't wait to share your love and adoration from a Mini! I am completing the order to my 2011 S today hopefully, and I hope it comes a lot sooner than what they tell me it will take (60-90 days living in Hawaii) cause man, they are so sexy and fun!! The first thing I am going to do when I get my Mini is take it to one of my favorite driving roads, but it will be so hard not to get it past 4000rpms until I hit the "broken in" milage! Do you have a name for your Mini??

Congrats on completing your order! I hope the delivery/transit time is on the shorter end of the estimate you were given. Once you get in & fire your MINI up all the wait time will be well worth it, I'm sure.

I came from a long line of practical cars before I got my MINI (most were auto, but I had a '91 Camry w/manual tranny), so I was used to engines that shifted @ pretty low RPMs, like 3000-3500. I got my MINI used, so she was past the break-in period, and I was surprised at how much she likes to rev over 4K, and shift somewhere before 5 grand. MINIs do like to get up & go! Knowing this now, it'd be a real chore to edit myself & stay under 4000.

And yep, my MINI has a name: Ruffian, named after a legendary thoroughbred filly from the '70s. Cuz my girl, she likes to run!

They are a ton of fun and very surprising on how fast they are. In the tight twisty stuff they will run with anything on the road and I mean anything if is an S or better. My fast car is my Maserati and the MINI my driver/commuter.
Care to guess which one gets the most track time. What the Mini gives up on the straights is more than gained in the corners.

Ruffian, I love it!! I was thinking 'Little Wing' as in the Jimi Hendrix song, I want to get a sticker to put on my rear window for it. But my husband suggested 'Storm' because it's the Eclipse Gray color exclusive for the S. So we will see, I have a little while to decide unfortunately. Our sales rep actually gave us a new estimate of when it would get here last night, and he said between March-April ..... I might have to go back and test drive the ones on the lot between now and then to hold me over!

This new Mini will actually be my first car to myself ... I had to share one with my sister in high school and a bit of college that was honestly her car (Nissan Sentra), and then since I got married I have been sharing my a 2009 BMW 135i and since the BMW I am used to cars that will get up and go so the Mini was a relief, I think with anything else it would have been too slow for me haha.

Being a Hendrix fan myself, I vote for Little Wing.

I think that's what I'll name her, plus I think it would be neat if I had a small sticker that said Little Wing that I could put on the lower part of the rear window
