Gear shift and wrist pain?

Any of ya'll ever have problems with carpal tunnel and shifting?

I have had a history of it (keep it under control mostly, i work in IT) but starting a few days ago, I have had a flareup, and notice it mostly when shifting.

Any of ya'll notice this and figure out a way to keep it from happening?

Release the mouse, or use the other hand, and youll heal in time. The shifter is the least of your problems.

Maybe a wrist support, like a bowling glove, would help?

Not exactly the same, but my knees are why my new MINI Clubman is an automatic. Sometimes you just get old and parts wear out.....

Next time the airbox is removed, you could try spraying some brake cleaner on the shifing linkage and putting a little extra grease on them. May smooth it out some requiring less effort and resistance.

It is an exposed area and gets pretty gunked up.

If you really notice it when you're shifting, try a different shift ****. I got a JCW **** on my MCS, which I find a lot more comfortable to grip than the regular one. Lot of other options available through 3rd parties, too. A member of this board - Robin Casady - was making some really nice looking ones himself at one time, not sure if he still does.

I had carpal tunnel. Even had the surgery. It still bothers me on occasion. When I drove stick and had a carpal tunnel flare up, nothing would help. Someone suggested not using the mouse so much, I completely agree. That's what did me in. A wrist brace will work, especially at night. I remember trying to shift with the left hand. I DO NOT recommend this. If you pm me, I can tell you about a bunch of wrist exercises that can really help.
Good luck.
