keyfob

my wife has lost our key to the mini. now we are down to 1.
my main concern, is that wherever she dropped it, a dishonest person can pick it up and try to gain access to our car (but its usually garaged).

should I get the car reprogrammed?
is that possible?
how much does it cost?

thanks.

You dont need to get the car reprogrammed. Bring the key you have and the dealer can lock out the other key so it can't remote open the car or start it....
The only problem is when you loose a key FOB there is still the valet metal key in it. They can still open the door.

If you want to solve this problem you must re-Lock and Key the whole car. This is quite a bit of labour and $$ and of course new keys add to the cost. I have actually done this a couple times. There may be a kit to re-lock and key the whole car which would be cheaper than buying parts individually

How much does it cost to replace and reprogram just one key fob?

Since I see you have a 2010, this may not apply to you, but i found this thread a few days and thought I'd pass it on.
