mechanic advice
thanks in advance -
so I went to a new mechanic after not getting great service at dealer - generally try to do work myself but this event required specific equipment.
I went in with trouble code, asked if i needed to bring in part, they said not nec, we can get it in same day - super - "..are you sure that is the problem?"
great question - yes but I understand you will have to diag.. also.. why take a chance - go ahead..
so i take it in, without part in hand, they confirm my code, tell me that more diag needed - sure i don't want to ruin engine ya know -- then end of day - a few more hours into diag time and then " - we need to order the part ... "... "we are still not sure if this is it but lets go ahead and replace then test..."
Question:
this is a very reputable place - in biz years - guys really nice - but am i being abused? I don't mind thoroughness but for $50 in parts and the same procedure to diag - we could have eliminated a $50 part right from the get go.
I guess that we all approach problems from different angles and replacing parts is not a great technique ever - but I walked in with the code they confirmed and then could have replaced in diag period --- still may not be the cause of problems but did I waste 2 or more hours of tech time? and should I be upset?
