OK, I have pretty much 100% decided on a cooper S, I have found a few single owner loaded up 06's with everything I want and then some for the high $14k range, mileage in the 55-60k range.
I have also found a couple 2007 S cars with much fewer options for about $2-2,5k more, one at a local Mini dealer.
Is the new turbo motor so much nicer on mileage and performance that its worth spending more for fewer options just to get it?
I honestly could go either way and I'm looking for arguments to puch me one way or the other.
This will be a DD and fun car and will get some mods on it in time.
Thanks!

You need to drive them both. Both the R53 and R56 have their ardent fans.

Some people really dislike the R56 styling and like their R53 just for that reason.

Some other people like the R53 supercharger whine and "feel".

Others love the R56 torque with the turbo.

Each car has its merit. Both have their "quirks" for sure.

If you are into modding and such it seems that the R53 platform has many, many, many more options out there. The R56 mods are getting better every day but most tend to be pretty expensive since the demand is lower - it seems that most people do their modding once the car is out of warranty.

Go out and drive one of each and then you'll know. Either way you'll have a hoot!
