The funniest thing is that I almost got an MCS when I was SEVENTEEN and my mom had no problem with it what so ever. Now all of a sudden it is a death trap with no space and no suspension and its going to spontaneous combust or turn itself into semi trucks or something. I'm not sure what she is being so paranoid right now. Probably just over the lack of control.

I'm going to drive another E46, MINI and WRX wagon this evening just to solidify my choice. Then probably give mommy a call to tell her all is going to be ok.
Look, just tell her you're thinking about getting a motorcycle. The Mini will seem like a station wagon by comparison.

You didn't get that from me though.

MINIs are the exact opposite of death traps. They are like driving a brick. in terms of safety. and like driving a mosquito in terms of avoidance(not that you should drive an insect, and its cruel to even try). The suspension on R53s is a bit stiff compared to other vehicles I've had.... but its supposed to be.

Some do spontaneously combust, though.... But regular maintenance can nearly negate that chance.

And MINI's are spacious as long as you aren't expecting to roll with a family of 4, and thier luggage for a week vacation. Hatchbacks are amazing at carrying stuff. Just look at the show Top Gear, thier test for hatchbacks carrying capacity uses a Chest-of-drawers. Fit that in your Altima or Civic.

DO IT!

MINI works fine as daily driver, no problem with 4 tires in boot, what else do you want?

I've pretty much settled on the MCS. I drove a 330 and a WRX today and wasn't as excited about those cars. Plus I can get a better MINI for the money. I drove a 2007 MINI, it's a shame I can't afford one. I can't spend more than 14K on my next car. I'm hoping to score a good deal on a 2005.

my dad pulled that one on his mom so I think he'd see through it. She let him drive the bike for six months (at age 16) before she broke down and bought him a car.

Yeah I know they are safe. Mom is just being mom. I talked to her today and she's more concerned with it not having the room I need vs. it being unsafe. I told her that it can carry a set of wheels and she said, "Don't drive around with wheels in your car if you are in a crash you can be decapitated" ok mom. She's a little bit paranoid to say the least, but I don't think I'll be disowned for buying a MINI.

Following on the "tell her you're thinking of a motorcycle" theme... Tell her you're thinking of becoming a door-to-door Ginsu salesman - the tires will seem safe by comparison.

My R55 is my daily driver, just perfect for me, it also doubles up as the shop run around, I have even had a TFX Hemi in the back with the injector/supercharger and heads removed, for obvious height/width issues.
Mmm Hemi in a clubman!
