+1. I'd love for my MINI to be closer to the size of an original Mini.

Non-MINI owners usually see the cars as being a lot smaller than they really are (which is perfectly fine with me!). I agree with everyone on the interior, definitely roomy! That said, I have been in a classic and they're rather roomy as well (surprisingly).

Like Day & Night !!!!

Classic Mini= TINY

BMW Mini= SMALL

Both are great cars but if they did not sell the R-56 I probably would not have purchased my 2009 JCW. I'm sure happy that BMW bought Mini or there would be none.

Ronnie948= a happy Mini Cooper JCW owner

A hot motor in a 500 size MINI would sell like crazy I think but I'm sure MINI will never go back. The Gen II MINI is the size it is now because of European pedestrian crash regulations. I'm also sure market research is another bigger reason. Yes, the "Actual Size" stickers don't mean that much anymore.
That would be really sweet. Something to compete against that badass fiat 500 abarth.

I think the MINI is just the right size. The original Mini was too small for me.

the mini over in the UK honestly isn't mini at all, it's bigger than a lot of other cars, but having seen them in the US they look tiny!
weird how cars vary between countries

I was on the highway the other day and passed a 1st generation Mazda Miata, and when doing so, I realized that my mini was towering over it as if I were driving an SUV. But a back seat for temporary travel with the daughters is a necessity for me. So no two seaters.

There are more (and smaller) cars on the way to our market besides just the 500......wait for the Toyota IQ! To quote Steve Martin..."Let's get small"!

I bought mine 2 weeks ago and it wasn't even a car I was considering. I'm glad I bought, regardless of the lack of trunk space. She's a BEAUTIFUL piece of metal!

Yes, the MINI is just small enough 4 me. I had an MGB Midget once, and that was much smaller. I couldn't see myself driving the original Mini, though.

Last year, I went on a road trip w/a friend of mine who drives a Mercedes SUV. I was surprised when a we spotted a MINI on the highway and it was noticeably smaller from the SUV point of view. I asked my friend, OMG! Is that how Scoopie looks 2 u??? LOL ... he said, Yeeeess! When I'm driving, she doesn't seem that small.

OK i remembered the name, it's company Wood & Pickett and the car name is now the "Margrave" (because the name Mini is of course prohibited from use).

I like the fact that they turn my two car garage into a four car garage. (Always wanted a bigger garage.) Parked end to end of course. Now if I could only afford to buy a few more MINI's.

I had a 76 1275GTS it was roomy enough that we had 4 adults in it and drove it around Santiago Chile all night. I think the size of the new one is just right though. If I need anyhting bigger my girlfriend has a Caddy

The exterior is small, but it is certainly much larger that a lot of cars on the inside. I'm 6'6" 350lb and for me it's probably one of the most comfortable cars I've ever driven, although nobody can sit behind me!

I think that about sums it up.

My first car was a new 1972 Honda 600 Coupe. The Coupe and the Sedan were essentially Honda's spin on the original Mini. Anyway, I understand the concept of driving tiny cars.

In today's context, having something like an original-sized Mini would be fun, but fairly impractical. If I could afford about 3 cars and only use it as a runabout and fun car, it could work. But beyond that, it's use would be quite limited.

That's exactly the way I use mine. I wouldn't want it as a daily driver, but for those special occasions, nothing beats it!

If MINI brought back the Countryman (the original Clubman), I'd snap it up too. I wished they hadn't called the SUV that, it's only going to confuse people who have seen the old Clubman. http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/minicountryman.htm

I went looking for a small car. I'd really like to own an original Mini but I dont' want another project. I would have bought the MINI if it were smaller for sure.

I love my Mini (2nd Gen), but I think everyone who owns a current Mini should, at some time in their life, drive the original. Its like a roller skate. A go cart can't begin to compare. The originals were just really fun. They rattled, too.

Original Mini: A small car back in the day - positively tiny today. Cheap and cheerful. Amazing interior space in relation to the external dimensions.

New Mini: Exactly the right size for a small car today.(By European standards at least). Cheerful but upscale therefore expensive today. Average interior space, boot tiny - biggest drawback.

My previous small car was a 2003 Nissan Micra which was about the same size but had roomier interior and way bigger boot. No comparison with the champion of interior space the Honda Jazz.

Anyway, the original Mini is best kept as a classic to restore and drive occasionally or have fond memories of (when they didn't brake down).

The new MINI is wonderful (when it doesn't brake down - I have a very early 2001 model) and I don't expect it to change much in size or style as it is bound by its own success.

On another note, didn't everyone notice how successful are the new versions of classics? The Beetle, the MINI and the Fiat 500. But one is missing: I would love to see a new Citroen 2CV.
