General MINI TalkShared experiences, motoring minutes, and other general MINI-related discussion that applies to all MINIs, regardless of model, year or trim.
I still wave and I don't see me ever stopping. I'm seeing a few MINIs each day now but almost always when I'm in my wife's or work vehicle. I still wave!
I only wave when the time allows, ie not when passing headon at 50mph, when you do some thing in such a short time frame I generally don't have time to see their response, if any. Really think that now hitting the high beams is working better.
I plan to continue to wave no matter what the response.
It's up to us to keep it alive!
I do sometimes flash my lights.
Now, it is true that watching the road probably causes me to miss a few MINIs here and there.
Safety takes priority.
If my kids are with me, they wave too.
In fact, no matter how deep the conversation in the car may be, like that F in geometry that I just found out about , any of us will stop and call out "MINI" sometimes followed by "Chili Red/Black JustaCooper" or other appropriate identification accompanied with the wave. Then we pick up the conversation right where it left off.
I wave whenever possible and probably get a 25% return wave rate. I taught my G.F. that you are REQUIRED to wave to other Mini's and now that she has claimed the Mini as hers, she waves too but gets a much higher rate of return. In fact, she gets waves from non-Mini's as well - hmmmmmm

Yesterday I was driving north on I95 in CT. Miserable weather with lots of rain and fog. I was in the right lane going about 60-65mph and realized a PW MINI S convertable was in front of me. I followed it for a couple of miles, keeping a proper distance and did not honk or flash the headlights. I signaled and then passed it on the left. A very pretty woman was driving. I honked and looked at her and waved. What did I get....The one fingered salute.

A friendly wave to an approaching Mini is one thing but it's a bit intrusive, imo, to honk, make eye contact, and wave at a total stranger as you're passing. Would you have done the same thing if it had been some guy? He might have saluted too...

I wave or flash the lights all the time. It is about 50/50 that it is returned to me.I think it defines between the owners of MINI and the enthusiasts?
I do the wave when I see them, but I am sure I have missed a couple over the last few months Ya do have to watch where your are driving, at least here in NJ.
