Mini vs Porsche
My other car is a Z4 M Coupe. But I definitely still drive it, in fact they make an awesome pair and a nice change of pace from each other.
I'd been "daily driving" my 997S for the past four years, and I love the car, but the manual shifter loses some of its fun when stuck in L.A. traffic.
So, last fall I bought an MCS with the paddle-shifter automatic. I must admit that I drive the MINI a lot more than the Porsche, but, when it comes to weekend fun, the Carrera still rules. Seriously.
However, if you're lucky enough to have two cars, a MINI and a 997 make a pretty sweet one-two punch. Both fun, but in very different ways.

I've been a classic Brit fan for many years, and my "pet car" is a '78 MG Midget. It's great fun when the weather's nice, and I drive it a lot. Otherwise I'd drive my VW GTI VR6, which is a great road car, but not as quirky and fun as the Midget.
Now that I've traded in the GTI on a 2010 Cooper S (on Dec. 21, '09), it's going to be interesting to see what happens in the spring, when the weather gets nice again. Any day that's nice enough to drive the MG will also be a good day for a MINI run, and it may be a tough choice!
Cheers,

You can really substitute any other car for "Porsche" and have a discussion that if you own multiple cars, which is your preferred ride for a given situation.
First Post, but been here a long time...
I had a similar predicament, back in 06 I had a 2001 911 Carrera, which I tuned and converted into a Euro spec GT3.... all that behind me, I decided to buy a 07 R56 as my daily, it did serve as my daily to and from work, but as soon as I got home, I jumped in the 911 and took her out. Then I realized that I only used the R56 to go to and from work and for everything else I used the 911. I never regretted leasing the Mini, I loved it so much.
The good thing was that, my sister's roommate needed a car, so I offered it to her and for her to take over the lease.
Today, the Mini's lease is coming to the end, so Im stuck with either purchasing her at lease end, or using her as a trade. The 911 is long gone thanks to the economy and being unemployed. Hopefully when things start going back to normal, I'll have a 911 once again! But since the day that I sold my 911, the Mini as filled its shoes very well. Driving her is much different compared to the 911, but the same joy is still there! There are only a few driver cars out there and both 911 and R56 are one of them!

Lately my other car IS the MINI lol, my main car has been a '95 Doadge Dakota. Hopefully I'll be picking up a Mk.I Golf as my weekend toy soon.. not as nice as a Porshe but I'm only 22 so I cant complain.
I drive both my Porsche and MINI about the same. I am self employed and work from home most of the time ..so I don't really use either car to commute. -I do visit clients occassionaly and usually switch between which car I drive.
As far as fun factor, there is really no comparrison, my Porsche blows my MINI away in every category, -top speed, acceleration, handling, sound, comfort, etc. I LOVE my MINI yet the Porsche always gets my adrenaline going (the power is just insane).
here are some comparison facts between the two:
MINI COOPER S (modified): 205 HP / about 2600lbs
Porsche 930 Turbo (modified): 400+ HP/ just over 2300 lbs
my Porsche is just a tad longer than the MINI, yet is about a foot lower in overall height, and is quite a bit wider. -It truly handles as if it's on rails. The rear engine just digs the huge rear tires into the turns the harder you accelerate.
my best description is this, the MINI is QUICK, the Porsche is a ROCKET.

Mini's great for the weekend. But for the 9-5, can't beat the Neon. Plush seats, numb handling, quite relaxing in traffic with the automatic. Plus, rolling next to some hotties, I don't have to stress a line. When they look over they know it, mediorcrity. Thats how I roll.
Although they aren't mine, they may as well be! We have a 997 GT3 ClubSport, a MkV R32 Golf, and my R56 JCW. GT3 is the most incredible thing on the face of the earth...blows everything, and I mean, everything, away
I have a 911 and currently a Lexus GX suv. I dive both equally. The GX is going, but the Porsche is staying. If I didn't have dogs, I would drive the Porsche everyday. I love my car, but I can not wait to get the MINI Clubman. My 911 is a keeper and probably so will the MINI!!!
I'm another guy who really enjoys the MCS - fun to drive, peppy, great mileage, easy to manuever in traffic, but my 911 cab ruled if I just want to go for a fun drive. The Mini was my hands down favorite though in DC traffic and parking (I was a bit too obsessive about the P-car worrying about parking dings).
Interesting that I'm also another guy who sold my '96 911 to pay bills and the MCS may be going too. I'm not seeing any economic recovery.
