First or Second Generation certified pre-owned?

Dear Mini Forum,

I am in the market for a cetified pre-owned Cooper MINI S. I know that they were redesigned from bottom up between 2006 and 2007. My question is whether the first generation MINI is that much "worse", or should I stick with buying a second generation. I understand they are slightly different looking and a couple inches longer but understand little about the differences under the hood.

Thank you!

Kelly

This is a common question on this board. Opinions are diverse, but each generation has its plusses and minuses. One of the best places to start your research would be the buyer's guides at www.motoringfile.com, on the right side of the page. When you get bored reading, go out and test drive a bunch of cars and see which feels best for your you.

It depends on what you want....Gen1 is a bit more raw if you will....more connected with the road....a real rarity in the last few decades....gen2 is more refined....but many have sold gen2 to get into a 05-06 gen1 saying it is more fun....drive both and decide. They may look similar...but they are different beasts!! Gen1 cars are pretty easy to add satellite radio, a new head unit too, etc...most problems are well known. gen2 has a lot more electronics....many seemingly simple changes require "reprogramming" at the dealer....for an fee...kinda high IMO. But they do get higher MPG, have more power, but lack the whine of the supercharger....it goes on and on....decide with your heart!! Either way you will love it!!
