Full welded-in roll cage might have something to do with it also.

It looks like his tires lost all grip coming into that corner, it went straight off.

Looks like early apex and too much corner speed. Steering correction led to understeer, leading to no grip,

From the speed he was carrying into the entry of that corner, I would think his brakes failed. Looks like a European track, don't recognize it.
Watch the corner workers in the background, they hardly flinch, let alone shave an sense of urgency once he hit. That guy is going to be sore for a couple of weeks.

Notice that the door opened during the crash. This was already an issue in the 1st gen and I guess they still didn't address it in the 2nd gen. Some tracks in the US have banned MINI for this reason.
