Totaled...but walked away
Totaled...but walked away
Just a quick FYI. My daughter did not see a pickup truck coming from her right, and was hit in the right front wheel. The truck was doing 50+ mph. Our 2004 Electric Blue S was spun around; the rear of the car also hit the truck as it passed by. The Mini did a couple of 360's, and ended up on the side of the road. Two airbags deployed. Once the car stopped moving, my daughter undid her seatbelt and was able to walk away. Daughter suffered a shoulder bruise and seatbelt scrape on her cheek. The Mini was totaled. But it did it's job. The only car we are shopping for is a used Mini S! Small, but tough and solid!
Glad to hear that your daughter is OK. Post pics if you have them. I am always amazed at how much damage these little cars can take and protect the occupants. Incidentally, due to his deteriorating health I am selling my Uncle's 03 MCS, Electric Blue, 23,300 miles. I have not advertised it for sale yet but will be posting it for sale soon and reading your post made me think of it. I would love to see the car go to a good home.
As a friend of mine says, these damn cars are bulletproof.....guess more ways than one.
Any idea what happend to the other driver ?

What is the world coming to when we only consider that a piece of metal has been damaged beyond repair, but in doing so saved the life of a child??
I'm CONFUSED!!

Sheesh!Glad your daughter is fine, can't replace a life. And post pictures if you can!

I'm so glad to hear that your daughter survived what could of been a fatal crash. A 50+ mph impact in another car, yikes, I don't even want to go there. Your MINI is dead, but it gave its life in saving your daughter's. You need to replace the MINI & your daughter should go out & buy some lottery tickets!

Very glad to hear that your daughter is fine. It just goes to show the "small car doubters" that there is one car company out there that makes safe small cars. I agree, you should have your daughter play the lottery with you. Good luck in the future.
So glad to hear that your daughter is alive and doing fine after what could well have been a tragic accident had she not been driving a MINI!
Your MINI died in the line of duty, it gave it's life so that others may live and your daughter is fine... All's well that ends well!
Good luck to you both and I hope you find another MINI to replace your fallen one!
Motor On!

It is hard to concieve that others would place a greater value on an inanimate object than on a living being!

It is true that we all love our MINIs but after all it is still just a car!
I agree with you RJ... That commentary (No offense, but why did you let said daughter drive your poor Mini in the first place?) was uncalled for and thoughtless.
It is unfortunate that we live in a world that lacks civility and compassion. I too am amazed & confused!

I'm amazed every day when I go out on our roads and see all of the other driver's who have some how decided that they don't have to follow the Rules of the road...not that this instance has anything to do with that. They've decided that they can make up their own and NOT use of a Turn Signal, Driving while on the PHONE, TAILGATING, barely slowing down at STOP Signs. We've certainly lost way more than Civility and Compassion we've lost Common Sense as well!!
Did you read the OPs post, his Daughter walked away from what could have been a tragedy and all you car about is "why did you let said Daughter driver your poor Mini in the first place?" Your comment was very brash, did you not consider why a child of legal age (16+) would be allowed to drive a MINI...maybe becasue she has a Driver's License and has the choice of 2 Mini's to drive, the OP's and his wifes'??

Funny, because from most of the comments on here, the Ford Rangers have been more reliable than any model year of the Mini. I own one currently, along with family, and co-workers, and I would place money on that truck to outlast any Mini.
It's a CAR, performance or not...THIS is not what caused the car to be TOTALED nor was it the Daughter.
You still don't get it...he could be WITHOUT his Daughter rignt now, planning her Funeral, and the CAR could STILL be TOTALED...would that make YOU feel any BETTER??!!

Wow, lots of comments!
To ACEkraut: Would be interested, but you're in Maine; I'm in SC.
To gRay rAven: The other driver was Ok; he let my daughter use his cellphone to call home. It took a day to find her phone...under a floor mat.
To Pinky Demon: (and others): No offense taken. Both of my college-age daughters learned to drive on my wife's Electric Blue MCS. it became the 'family car". Since my daughters drove the Blue Mini, my wife took over my 2005 Chili Red S convertible (with the Cooperworks package). The kids rarely drove the covertible due mainly to the difficulty of seeing out of the car, and the extra power was more than they felt comfortable with. I'm stuck with a 4 cylinder small SUV (company car). One note: we test drove a Cooper the other day. Daughter's comment. "With a Cooper S, I use my toes to accerlerate. With the Cooper, I had to use my foot." Peppy, but we are looking for a pre-owned S (no offense to you Cooper drivers). Thanks again to all the comments. If I can figure out how to post some pics, I will do so soon.
