2009 Mini First
Just saw this on autoblog. The 2009 Mini First, unfortunately only available in the U.K. right now. It has a 1.4L, 75hp, 4cyl, with 6-speed manual and gets...53.3MPG

Thats crazy! Check it out:

Be aware that gallons are about the only things that are smaller in Merka than in Yurp - a British (or 'Imperial', natch) gallon is 20% bigger than a US gallon, so that 53.3mpg becomes 44.4mpg from a US gallon.
So the diesel Cooper's British combined fuel economy of 72.4mpg is 'only' 60.3mpg in US gallons.
Mind you, Yurpeen driving is much more stop/start and acceleration-intensive than Merkan driving, so you would expect to get most of that 20% loss back again in US conditions.
