Does the MINI thrill ever wear off?

When we first bought our Pepper White, Bonnet-Striped MINI, I was giddy as a little kid.

Today, a couple months later, I'm, well, giddy as a little kid.

(Oh yeah - I'm fifty!)

But I'm afraid that the thrill will eventually wear off, as it has with most other cars I've owned, including a few pretty cool ones. Sooner or later they've all become - just cars (usually within days of the first door ding...).

Say it ain't so with the Coop- Say it won't be!

One thing I have noticed on the forums is that a bunch of people have sold their MINIs only to later (or sooner) regret it and end up buying back in to the fraternity.

Once bitten always smitten?

A guy at the gas station fullin' up his harley said cool car . How much MPH are you getting on that little car = i said 34 on HWy with automatic . I've been driving MINIs since 1/03 and I do believe I'm beginning to approach the realm of sane once more....just barely. It's all relative....everybody else still thinks I'm quite mad.

It's a trap, you see......once you just start to get used to the car's charming looks, the performance aspects will sneak up on ya. And when that settles in, the economy will bite ya. Then the practicality. Then it starts all over again. Sad but true.

Hey Gokartride ! When should i change the oil for the 1st time ? The dealer said one year is that right ? Thanks my car has about 2000 miles on her now and don't want to damage the engine . Also no place where i live to change a Mini Coopers oil so where do i get a oil filter ? Thanks ! by the way the dealer said change the oil every 15000 miles = what ! That can't be right im old school but 15000 miles is a lot or one year

I tend to go with what the manufacturer recommends but you'll find there are different approaches to this. Best to search around here a bit. I did change my oil initially just after breakin.

Don't think so. Bought it new and I'm going to be hitting year four in August. I still look back at it every time I walk away!

I hope that it never wears off. I love this freaking car. And yes you can wait a year with the oil. The new synthetic stuff holds up quite well. And remember you change oil not cause of it being bad but because the additives eventually wear out of it.

I have had my MINI for a year and everytime I go a little faster, take a corner or even look at it, my heart races to catch up. I don't think it will ever go away for me.

It will be 2 years on August 6, 2009. The love has only grown! Hopefully I can own it until I'm an old man. Of all the things I own I love my Mini the most.

6 1/2 years and it never fails to make me smile. I always look back and sometimes walk through a parking lot backwards. Seeing an open green light left turn or a highway ramp never fails to get my heart going.

Still having fun a little short of two years later. Helps to have a pick-up and a classic convertible also so you can always choose the right vehicle for the situation, though the MINI has hauled some surprising stuff in certain situations.

If you wait a year to change the oil I would make sure you are at least checking it regularly, especially the longer you go before changing it and check the level more frequently if you start to see the oil level dropping. I am putting about 10K on the car each year and change the oil about twice, but that is just me.

I've only had Ferris for a little over a year but let me tell you, he makes me happy. I had to take it in to get some body work repaired recently (guardrail plus MINI equals not good) and I was without for three weeks. By the time I got Ferris back I was jonesing pretty bad. Once I sat down in the seat, though, all my problems seemed to melt away.

I've found my happiness and it has four wheels and a turbo!

Sometimes you get used to it and then take a new passenger for a ride and they get giddy and it starts all over again.

That's what I did The thrill was still there with the old one, I just wanted more toys to play with. The MINI is just a cool car, period. It's fun to drive every day, and it's cool to just look at. I park at a certain angle in my driveway just so it looks cool from the house :D

I am still completely smitten. If I'm having a bad day at work as soon as I get walking up to my Cricket, it all changes to happiness and a big smile

I've been a MINI owner since 2002. My first was a PS/B MC, then I traded it in for an '07 PW/B MC. Then last month my better half found an '06 MINI convertible S for himself. So no, the thrill hasn't worn off one bit for either of us.

I have owned my classic for about 4 years and I find that I am in generally a better mood when I can drive it. Now we have added an 08 Clubman to the stable, I am looking for reasons to take it out (and fighting the urge to ignore other things (ie work) to go for a ride.)

I've had my MCS for about 2 months. I park sooo faaaar from my office to avoid other cars in the parking lot that I have to set my alarm 10 minutes earlier to make it to work on time. The extra walk is totally worth it!

(No dings so far )
