MPG=32.3 for 404 highway/city miles
MPG=32.3 for 404 highway/city miles
I Drove down to Gulf Stream Park yesterday to drive the new Audi Q5 and A4 on their test tracks. It was a fun day.
I drove my 2009 factory JCW 404 miles before filling up. (About 30 of them were city stop & go miles.) I was running 80/90 mph with the AC on and a passenger. I used 12.5 gallons giving me a 32.3MPG
I'm pleased with my MPG but I can't figure out how some of the people get 40mpg with their mini coopers.
I have a 2009 factory JCW. I usually get around 29/30 mpg around town driving. I still only have 4,000 miles on my car so maybe it will get better with more miles on it.

The laws of physics would indicate that if you slow this less than aerodynamically sleek mass to less than 65 mph and turn off the a/c, your fuel efficiency would improve noticeably. Alternatively, I think there are serious bragging rights for the ability to drive 80/90 mph with a/c on and still see 30+ mpg.This is just my opinion, though.
I get similar results in Shawn, best he's done is 33.8, which was 377 miles down to LA at about 80 with the A/C on.
If I really try hard on the freeway I can get the computer to say about he's doing about 38mpg, but its too boring and I can't keep that up for a whole tank.

Being smooth on gas and braking as little as possible is the best way to get good mpg numbers. My best is 40.7mpg going from Belen, NM to Carlsbad, NM. Slightly downhill, so that helps. Mine's an 07 MCS.
Long haul roadtrips, I find it more about conserving energy than having fleeting moments of "fun"

I'm sure I could get better MPG if I tried.
I'm really happy with the MPG I got. I'm sure if I slowed down to 65mph and no a/c it would probably be closer to 40mpg.
One time when I had my 98 Corvette I got 31mpg. I left the house at 5am on a Sunday morning going to Tampa and set the cruise control to 60mph and no a/c. Filled up at the Shell by my house and filled up when I got to Tampa.(NO TRAFFIC at all)
Driving normal at 75/80 in traffic on the way home with a/c on I only got 23mpg. It was a much better ride coming home though. Around town the vette never got over 19mpg.
My JCW gets great mpg and is a very "TO MUCH FUN DRIVING CAR" that I don't even miss the Corvette at all.
I'll probably try a most MPG ride someday in the future but only if I leave the house very early in the morning before a lot of traffic plugs up the interstate.
