BMW Art Car Exhibit - Los Angeles County Museum of Art
I visited the Los Angeles County Museum of Art on Sunday, and saw the BMW Art Car Exhibition. They provided a nice brochure that provided facts about the contributing artists. The exhibit runs through Feb 24th, 2009.

"I adore the car," Warhol said after he'd finished. "It's much better than a work of art."
The actual painting of the car was done by Warhol's own hand live before cameras as a publicity event.

Frank Stella said, "My design is like a blueprint transferred to the bodywork," and in fact the graph paper inspired decoration suggests a two-dimensional drawing inflated to three dimensions.

The BMW Art Car project asks artists to transform both series production models and race cars into "painted rolling sculpture."

Roy Lichtenstein "the design also shows the countryside through which the car has travelled.... One could call it an enumeration of everything a car experiences - only that this car reflects all of these things before they actually have been on the road."
