Synfully good oil on sale!
Hello,
It seems that AutoZone has a pretty good sale going on right now for synthetic oil and filters. If you buy 5 qts. of Valvoline SynPower Synthetic oil and a Fram ToughGuard oil filter, the price is only $24.99 for the whole shootin' match!!
This is a pretty good deal, IMHO - around here the oil is $7.69/qt. and the filters cost about $9.00. Add those up and you come up with $47.45, $24.99 is almost exactly 1/2 price. I bought 5 qts. and a filter for the oil change I did today (4500 miles on the car last night).
While I was in AutoZone, I also picked up a set of Sylvania SilverStar halogen bulbs for $40. Not a great deal, but not a rip-off, either. And, like the Philips XtremePower bulbs, the Sylvanias are definitely brighter and whiter than stock (non-Xenon). I just came back from a test drive and noticed immediately that they were better than the stockers. This was a well-spent $40, IMHO. I also aimed the lights just a wee bit higher than stock - 1/8 of a turn clockwise did the trick. I can now see further down the road and it does not blind oncoming traffic.
Be aware, however, that the AutoZone computer recommends incorrect bulbs for the Mini Clubman S and Cooper S. The correct bulbs to use are the 9008/H13. Their computer says to use 9003. I told that to the parts counter guy, but he said the computer recommendation was correct. Au contraire, mon frere!! I went out to the car and yanked the bulb to show it to him. Sure enough, it was a 9008...
Since I was busy fiddlling with the car already, I also did the seat tilt mod. This is where you place a 3/8" spacer under the front seat rails to cause the seat to tilt back a bit. It worked like a champ - my thighs now have the proper support, making the seats more comfortable. Now I'm sitting IN the seat instead of ON the seat. Additionally, I found that the stock bolts are more than long enough for the job, I saw no reason to replace them with longer bolts.
The mod was dead-nuts simple to do: Loosen the rear bolts 4 or 5 turns (Torx 40). Then remove one of the front bolts and slide your spacer in place. Re-insert the bolt and tighten halfway. Repeat with the other bolt. Tighten down both front bolts and the rear bolts - you're done, 10 minutes to do it all, if that...
