+1 on High Performance Driving School, as a first timer I'd go with http://www.minidriving.com/ not as intimidating and its an all MINIs school. Ranges from $200-350 depending how early you register and what track you run. Note: He probably won't appreciate it when you give it to him, but when he comes back from the HPDE he's gonna want to tell you all about it and then will Thank You again and more sincerely. The Very Best Gift You Can Ever Give.

BTW: Thanks Silverbullit I just ordered the lightinsight, if anyone lives on east coast, you need this.

or

see the gajillion cleaning and detailing products at griotsgarage.com many mini owners are a wee bit fastidious about cleaning their car ... or even just a gift cert' for here....

at your high end, their machine polisher is highly regarded by many and a good starter kit would be

Nice! If his car doesn't have one, that's a pretty cool option!

I was thinking of something personal - head over to Doug Whalen's shop and get a personalized shift ****. It's right in your range, he can engrave about anything on it, and it won't get returned if you've personalized it! As an important bonus, it improves shifting: http://www.whalenshiftmachine.com/

+another1 on driving school (take it together!), or consider membership in your local Mini club. I know we have some neat stuff going on all the time, and it's a great way to meet people, drive well, and have fun. www.pittstopmini.org - the Winter Driving Event is right in your price range - and you can have a romantic weekend in Pittsburgh! (no, that's not an oxymoron, it's really nice here. Really. It is! We've got museums and theatre and everything! No, I'm not kidding!)

cutemini, that was a nice gift selection and he better be good to you. I think there are several NAM members that will take him to task if he's not. BTW, lightinsight owes me a bonus. I think they sold several off this thread.
