Bob Giannou, organizer of the annual Targa Newfoundland international rally each September, has just posted an announcement about the 2009 event that will interest everyone:

"Our longest entered and most consistent proponent of both the Mini and Mini development, **** Patterson, recently suggested that as 2009 was the 50th anniversary of the creation of the little beasties we should pay homage to the species.

"We met, reviewed ****'s suggestion, thought about it for a short period and decided; that as virtually no other car has so excited and entertained motorsport fans of all ages, created so much fun, for such a long periods, and so caught and charged the imagination of so many people with so much delight, that we agreed.

"Sooooo in the spirit of the little guys we decided to make Targa Newfoundland 2009 a Targa Minifest, and we therefore are both pleased and proud to announce.....

"2009 THE YEAR OF THE MINI or the TARGA 2009 MINIFEST.

"Now, to help us celebrate, we need all of the racing, solo or rallying Minis and MINIs to come and play and help us celebrate this wonderful event. Take this as an invitation (as formal as it gets in Mini world) to Minis and MINIs from all backgrounds and walks of life to come and enjoy the best Mini competition to be found in North America.

"To encourage the little beasties we are pleased to offer a 10% discount on either the Advanced or Regular Entry Fees, whichever is in effect at the time the application is received.

"Please be advised that we intend to approach this anniversary with as much creativity and imagination as was shown in both the designs. So Minis and MINIs, if you want to celebrate your history, bring your owner and come on down to the Targa Newfoundland 2009 MINIFEST."
