Why is everybody pickin' on me
[quote=MiniBoz;2483486]I couldn't agree more! I saw a guy texting while driving the other day... I wanted to run him off the road before he hurt someone. Insane! /quote]
What he was doing was bad enough but your feelings looks like RoadRage to me

Bozo, I found your opening post very entertaining reading and I've experienced that kind of annoying behavior not only here in SoCal, but on I-10 as I have driven cross-country. I guess our little clown cars are kinda deceiving.
But Kindergarten Cop is Arnold's best movie ever.
As to OP, weird thing is no Ricers have really came up on me, the thing I did not expect at all was the big trucks wanting to race on freways
it confused me cause they would pass at like 95mph and slow down (my cruise set at 85mph) til we were heads up and rev their trucks. I never say No, so I smoke em. I admit I did get smoked once by a non SRT Neon, but it did have a turbo with an extremly loud blow off valve, and got smoked by a Miata twice, one sounded like a V8, the other I don't know it was a sleeper.

why did you get the S then??? i don't get it..
that rant is equivalent to saying: "I bought a new Sidekick Phone from T-Mobile, and everyone keeps texting me now. Why do they do it?! Jeez it's so annoying! "
You should be flattered that people want to put lives in danger and illegally street race you

One was kind of a plain-looking four-seater coupe that turned out to be a Maserati Biturbo (the mid-to-late 80s Biturbos were *very* ugly, so it was easy to mistake them for lesser cars).
The other sleeper was an early 70's Trans Am that turned out to be one of the factory "Super Duty" versions with the 455-cubic inch engine.
In almost two years and 40k miles, I've never had anyone want to play with me in the MINI, though. I don't know if it's because I'm almost 40 now, or if they see my autocross number/class on the side and mistakenly assume I must have the engine hopped up.
Texting while driving should be outlawed... I have witnessed more mistakes being made by those that are texting than drunk drivers.
And trust me as a former LEO I have seen my fair share of drunk drivers.
I just don't understand how someone that is looking for the correct letter to push on a phone
could possibly know whats going on outside of their vehicle.

Now I got a "RED" JCW and I guess (according to Bozo) I'll be back to the same problem.
COOL mini, man!!

Why thank you MINIclo. It IS all about the entertainment ...and maybe a little edumacation and a little venting and a little uh ...whatever else we got goin' on here.
Deceiving? Yeah, probably. But STILL the coolest thing ever put on four wheels
well ...except maybe for a Ferrari 265 GTB4 ...or an Austin Martin DB-8 or maybe ...well look, who can afford those anyway.

Bozo, I personally enjoyed your original post and understand your frustration with all the real "bozos" out there. I heard a great motivational speaker a few years back who said something that has stuck with me..."People don't do things to you, they do them for themselves." If you buy into this concept, you know the ricer racer is just trying to make himself feel faster/better than he really is, that the knucklehead truckers are just compensating, that the guy who suddenly pulls out in front of you on the freeway really wasn't just waiting for you to come along to cut you off. Most people are completely self-centered and only do things to make themselves feel better, bigger, faster, whatever. It really has nothing to do with you/me and the MINI. That's just us being self-centered.

The only reason we retaliate or get sucked in by their actions is that we feel they are doing it to us personally. Once I totally bought into this concept, the stupid actions of these ***** stopped bothering me (as much
).

I enjoyed seeing Mini peoples' perception of pickup truck drivers. My other vehicle is a Dodge Ram diesel pickup. My Mini is pretty well modded, but my pickup would eat my Mini for lunch (until we got into some curves). But I guess my general feeling is, I let people be the Barney Badazz and pass me. Tailgating annoys me. If I'm in my truck I slow down so my RPM's are nice and low and then roll hard into the skinny pedal. That produces a warning puff of smoke. If the tailgater gets the hint and backs off, all is well. But if they don't get it, I'll turn their day into night. That usually does the trick. I'm defenseless in the Mini. All I can do is hope they get tired of me and pass. I am 47 years old, but every once in a while my inner kid comes out and I'll have some fun with someone that wants to run.

I also drive two other vehicles: a beat-up '85 Toyota pick up truck which I use mostly ffor hauling yard waste to the dump, and a mini-van I use for family trips or just an occasional drive on a daily mission to keep the battery charged. And I rarely if EVER see these same behaviors when I am drving one of these other cars.
From the replies I see here, it seems that there are other MINI drivers who have experienced the same thing.
Peace

Wow. My pleasure. You just made my day.
OMG someone just HIT MY MINI!!!
They could drive a lot better if they paid attention.
Some people are just clueless and have no idea what's going on around them. TXTing, chatting, eating, drinking lattes... These are the people that you see start to change lanes and then yank themselves back into their own lane when they finally look over at the last second and see a car in their blind spot.

On my way to work this morning, this Altima and I were headed the same direction and I was in the left lane while he was in the right lane. He put his blinker on and start moving over. He DIDNT EVEN LOOK. He just started moving towards me. I laid on my horn and tried to vear as close to the curb as I could get and pull ahead but probably should have braked hard instead. Then WHAM he drove the front left corner of his car right into my front quarter panel and smashed his car up against mine. There is a huge gash running from the front quarter panel all the way across the door to the back quarter panel. His mirror left a bunch of paint down my rear passenger window. Two left rims are all scratched up from running into the curb and the front right got some scratches too.
A lot of people are idiots!

Matt
Well when I was pushed up on the curb, I hit a metal reflector with my front bumper. So after the MINI comes back from the shop I will have three new rims, a new front bumper, and new rocker panels on the passenger side.
Trying to stay optimistic - I am looking forward to the fresh and shiny new parts.
I am still awaiting delivery of my Mini. (This month, I HOPE.) I generally ignore the idiots who want to race. I just will NOT stress myself or my car to give someone else some fun. That does not mean I have not been exposed to my fair share of morons. I have two MAJOR pet peeves regarding other folks on the road.
First, EVERY STINKING MORNING there is an idiot in the left lane doing maybe 5 over the speed limit with zero traffic ahead of said idiot and a jam and half behind. When someone passes, idiot realizes that his car actually does come equipped with a gas pedal and procedes to run down and pass whoever had the nerve to pass him initially but not before tailgating said passer for a mile or so. It's a different idiot each morning so they appear to be breeding.
Second, distracted drivers seem to be in generous supply in my neck of the woods. I was driving into NYC one evening and noticed that the guy next to me was reading a book while eating a sandwich and drinking a cup of coffee and driving. I turned to mention this to my brother in the seat next to me and he pointed out the woman in the car next to him who was reading a road map and driving. All done at 60 mph. I was torn between escaping the area to avoid being involved in an accident or staying to watch the inevitable, aka "thinning the herd." Alas, I vacated the area and left the road to the "professional" idiots.
