I love mine, too.

I love one a little more than the others but I'm not going to say which one. The others might grow up with an inferiority complex.

I love my MINI,
I love the open top,
I love the blower,
I love the exhaust that pops,
I love the whole world,
It's such a brilliant place,
Boom De Yada Boom De Yada BOOM DE YADA!

I've got to sit down and do a MINI Video of this some time...

(Got the mp3 from Discovery, converted to a wav, and edited down to the first 3 Boom De Yada's as a ring tone for my phone. It's funny, some people are puzzled, but those who know it love it.)

I've only had my MINI a day (OK, a day plus an hour). OMG, this is a FUN car! I am fortunate to live in hilly, twisty, western NY. Just got back from the quintescential MINI outing to nowhere in particular.

I have issues. I just found this out today.

The justacoop can go plenty fast. Fast enough to fool you. It almost made me learn the hard way, with a county sherriff pulling me over. Fortunately my better half was along to nag me to slow down (her words, not mine but if the shoe fits... ) a few minutes earlier. How can you slow down in these things? Signs that say curves ahead seem to have hidden MINI-driver only readable text that says 'step on it and lean into the corner!'. Then, someone is putting all these slow-moving obstacles in my way--where did all these people drivng at or below the speed limit come from??? I know, the practical scientist on my shoulder says 'obey speed limits at all times', but who's that other guy telling me that MINI could easily take that corner at another ~20 mph over what I'm doing (and technically those aren't speed LIMITS, they're just advisory)?

Wow--FUN! Now I think I'm starting to understand the MINIverse!...

I was just having a talk with my son about this yesterday (he's 13). 'Those yellow signs are caution signs - what it means is if you have a Prius, you need to be going no faster than that speed. But if you have a MINI, you need to double that number and pay attention'. Going around those 15mph hairpins at 25-30 really makes you watch for gravel halfway thru the turn.

And yes, I love my wife's car. Can't wait for mine.

I've actually ran into roads in TN and OH that if you do not go the advised speed, you will die. I slid into the opposing lane once, a neutral slide - neither understeer or oversteer. The road was gravel free and smooth. There were no cars comming, but it could have been bad. I made a new rule about those signs:

sign says ----- speed you should go
15mph --------15mph
25mph --------35-45mph
35mph --------55mph or posted limit
45mph --------55mph or posted limit

for on-ramps it depends on your tires... I usually try not to exceed the highway speed limit.

Posted speed limit???
Is that in the owners manual?

I did discover a month after I had been driving my MINI on a daily basis that switching back over to my Jeep Rubicon did require some reprograming of my driving behavior.
After taking a local off ramp at the normal MINI speed (70mph) my Jeep was not prepared to take it at any higher than the posted 35mph.
Needless to say that after stopping and climbing out of my Jeep with Jello legs I did not repeat that mistake again.
