She won!
Yep, our daughter, Michelle Colvard, is the new Ms. Wheelchair America for 2009! We're in Washington, D.C. right now, and had the thrill of watching her getting the traditional crown and flowers. Looks like an exciting year's in store, starting with the Rose Bowl Parade!
Here she is as Ms. Wheelchair Texas--I don't have the new photos yet:
(I'm posting this in General MINI Talk because she has a LY cab. Oh, and her husband, Brian, drives a Checkmate. A two generation MINI family!)

Michelle was born with spina bifida. At one time she walked with braces and crutches, but eventually started using the wheelchair exclusively when she was about 12 or so. She drives with hand controls.
As for her story, I'll let you look at this link, but briefly, she's smart and hardworking:

She's never shied from trying something, and regularly autocrosses her Cooper in Class B. She also skis, rows on a boat team, works out daily, and knows how to party. Had to throw that last bit in just 'cause she's young!
It will be interesting to see how the next year goes--and how she juggles both jobs...

I think I can speak for all guys everywhere in saying that she's gorgeous.
I would say hot, but you are the parent and I'm sure when my 5 year old daughter is older I wouldn't want to hear someone say that about her.

That's okay--hot is fine. Did I tell you her screen name is "Topless Blonde" in the Houston MINI Motoring Society forum? Yeah, I know--outrageous! Actually, I think it's the best screen name I've ever seen. She's blonde, and her car is a convertible. I won't embarass her about the other possibilities...
