As an upscale car (people want that) that gets good fuel efficiency (people also want that), I'm not surprised. Yes, there may be more of them on the road, but I think those folks will still value the MINI's handling prowess and fun-factor, especially since the other options out there can generally cost a bit less and are more name-recognized, go-to brands. I am very pleased that MINI, with the newly-introduced Prince engine, is positioned to be a stronger player in the fuel efficient discussion, if only by accident....I'm not sure where BMW stands on the matter practically speaking. In any case, MINIs still have that value-added drivability that the other options lack, so that folks going for economy need not sacrifice real driving pleasure. Far from it!!!
