Drove to a deserted floor in a parking structure and parked as far away as I could from the stairwell/elevator. (This was for my son's pre-op check on his ears, and I'm making the poor little guy walk forever, but he'd rather do that than take the Saturn!)
So we get back, and on either side of Scoop are black, enormous, raised off-roading pickups, gleaming. They had pulled in on either side, but on the far edges of their spots. No chance of door dings. They had to be MINI drivers in disguise! It looked like my little princess had bodyguards!

+2

Getting next to BMWs, or Mercedes is usually a good choice.

I made the MISTAKE of parking Molly in a 2 Spot Parking Lot...YES 2, well 3 if you count the Handicap Spot. In front of the Ben & Jerry's in Downtown Portland Friday Night, then a Subaru Wagon pulled in...I FREAKED!! He left rather quickly so I calmed down...THEN a Toyota Pickup LOADED with 6 people pulled in and I could tell there might be issues. I immediately went to get in Molly (we had finished our Ice Cream) and the SOB was backing up so I put myself between him AND Molly. While attempting to get into Molly he HONKED and kept pulling forward, at that point My Husband got involved...NOT good...I FINALLY got him in the car and as I was pulling out the Guy was making a COMPLETE fool of himself. I'VE LEARNED MY LESSON!! Even though I don't like to...Street Parking is much better!!

I'm an island sucker also. I scope out a far away little island spot and suck the island curb within an inch. I have it down to a science at this point. Usually I'm far enough out in the boonies that I don't have to worry about another side parker, but I've had Hummers suck up the other space twice now for the extra room I've left.

That's a great tag line.

The only scratch on my car was inflicted while parked waaayyyy out in the boonies. I ascribe it to some curious individual looking in the window. So, you try, but "the nerve of some people's mothers".

Parking is no problem with a MINI.

I usually park:
Next to BMW M cars and Mercedes or Porsche
or
Another MINI
or
Next to a Ferrari or Maserati if I can find one.

I park in full size parking spaces but I stop 6 feet short and puff myself up a lot.

I leave the compact spaces for the big trucks and SUVs. They they do a lousy job of parking there. Usually half blocking the entire road.

And if you see this truck driver don't park too close to him-

I just try to park in left field....when I get to work I park my tires as close to the lines on the left (drivers side) figuring that each person comes to work solo so that the passenger door on the vehicle to your left probably will not open...so basically get as far away as the driver's side door on your right.

i park far far farrrrr away as possible from other cars.

i have even parked behind a restaurant where their daytime delivery trucks usually come in. or parked across the street in a residential neighborhood just to avoid the crazy people in the parking lots.

i've seen a person kick their door open onto the innocent car beside them because their hands were occupied with a phone and soda. lame.

Getting back to parking, I park at the end of the row, in the middle of nowhere, or on the edge of the disabled parking lines. At the grocery store we use, I try to park at the end, in the crosshatched area (not in the traffic flow). If I can't do that, I prefer parking next to "interesting" cars, on the theory that, at least while they are parked there, they aren't likely to bash my doors. So far, at 15 months, I have no marks (cross your fingers and knock on wood).

This spot was across the street from a 10.00 parking lot. Only a Mini was getting in here. This car is actually making me money!

I too park as far away as possible in parking lots, especially supermarkets. My favored spaces are at the end of a row, so only one car parks to side and one in front. Prime spots are those that only one, or best case, none, can park by mine.

At first, I found it much more difficult to back into a parking place. I was over-adjusting, since the MINI makes turns so tight and quick. Now that I'm more used to it...it's a snap.

I also make sure I don't go too far toward the back of the parking space, so people won't think the spot is empty.

I was in Oakland the other week...and we were in the SUV...We passed 3 or 4 street parking spots that Winston could have slid into w/out a problem. I wager the MINI's size comes in handy in the CITY where parking spaces are a premium.

BTW...I always lookd for islands, big wide open spaces, or just simply take my car wayyyyy out to deepes farthest reaches of the parking lot. If I have to park next to someone I look for a Benz, BMW, or Porsche...I know they will repsect their ride, so I don't have to worry about mine.

Here in Baton Rouge, the SUV's reign supreme, though most of the time parking is not a problem. I snapped this picture soon after I picked up Calie and was meeting some friends down town for dinner. I think I could have parked in his bed...in relation to this post, look at the parking lines...gotta love it.

I contemplate putting cones in teh back and putting them out whenever I park like the cable trucks do just to keep these behemoths off my car. Motor on!

I should have mentioned that this is at the FAR end of the row--about 6 zillion feet from the cart collection point, and the parking lot has a slight downward slope--absolutely no way for a cart to zing me.

(Well, I suppose one could fall from the sky... )
