Mini filming??

I was driving home towards Oakland, CA this evening on a nice twisting back road. I noticed a Mini with a big (3’) camera mount installed on the driver’s side, with a couple of support trucks. I’ve seen them filming vehicle commercials here before, and wondered if that’s what’s up? Didn’t have time or I would have taken some pix.

For those of you in the Bay Area, it was on Bear Creek Rd near Briones Reservoir.

BTW, I once met a guy there while they were filming a Corvette ad. They had identical cars, one with one whole side missing and with camera supports mounted on it. The guy’s job was to constantly clean the cars, all day long. And when they were doing stills he’d jack up and rotate the wheels so he could level the logos.

Friend of a friends company. They do very serious work. I'll post up a few pictures of that Mini tomorrow and some incredible video work they did as well.

I wish I lived in an area that had roads good enough to film

Fire up Google Earth and enter 37°55'4.86"N by 122°10'23.83"W. That’s approaching where they were at. It’s over a blind crest, heading into the setting sun. You scream up the hill from that intersection below, and when you hit a buck ten or so approaching the top you feel like you’re gonna launch into space. Lot’s of skid marks out there; wonder why? You have to careful of wildlife though; saw one suicidal turkey (the real kind, not a volvo driver) and one deer. Very rare to see LEOs, although there have been at least four deaths from speeding incidents within a mile of there.

And all of this is just a few miles from downtown Berzerkely.

Eat yer hearts out

Well I was almost going to say it could've been me, but I was further north east, and my mounts are only about half that size. Thanks for the hookup on roads to go checkout though, anyone have the photos/video available to post?

You DON’T wanna get me going on this...But volvoists have got to be the biggest scourge to other motorists, and especially motorcyclists. In The Perfect Vehicle by Melissa Holbrook Pierson she describes how at the Isle of Man TT races anyone who drove by in one was mercilessly razzed by the crowd of international bikers. The philosophy of the Volvo driver is the opposite of the mind of most who actually drive (or ride) for fun; check this out: http://www.blinman.com/volvos.htm

And this is said with all love for you who drive them; you are simply misguided and need to be led onto the true path
