I just received a call about my......loaner vehicle. That is finally all set-up. I spoke with Kim and asked for an update and she told me she doesnt have one. I asked her if my mini was even in the shop and she said well they took it for a test drive. At 9:00am this morning she told me that my mini was in the shop and now she doesnt know?????

Im tired of playing games. Im calling the General Manager again!

Handsome Rob you are a better man that I! If I had seen a tech treating my Mini like that, I would have jerked him out of the car and beat him to within an inch of his life! The lying tech and service writer would have received the same too!

I agree with Warped1966. I would be terrified to let them touch my car again. Any news from the GM?

I think a lot of the problems with Markel are from the fact that the service counter for MINIs and garage are so far apart. Add to that that any service advisors or managers do not know anything about the mechanical workings of a car.

My earlier comments about the parts counter at Markel might have been a bit high. Today I asked about the cost for new intercooler boots,
"what are those?" the parts guy answered.
"they hold the intercooler to the intake horns," I said.
"I've never had anyone ask about those before." the parts guy said.
I had to show him where to find them in his computer system. heh heh. I think accesories is more their specialty, never had a problem ordering accesories.

UPDATE:

I spoke to Kim at about 5:30pm about my mini. Apparently they test drove it. Thats it. Nothing else. I asked her to be honest with me and tell me if my mini was even in the shop and I finally got the truth!! "No it has not", she says. The truth shall set you free!!! I asked her why she didnt tell me that in the first place and she told me that she NEVER said that it went into the shop. I corrected her by telling her about our 10:00am conversation. She had nothing else to say.

I did call the General Manager, but was to no avail. I ended up leaving him a voicemail with no reply back yet. Maybe tomorrow.

You are not alone....

I wanted some work done on my car that needed dealer tools. Made an appointement. Took the car in, they said they would call me when it was done. I asked why I had to make an appointement if it wasn't for when the car would be taken into the shop to start work. No answer.... Didn't bother them in the least that if I'd known the appointment was for someone to just take the keys it would have been much easier for me to do a night drop. No comment.... I only take my car to the dealer for stuff that can't be done elsewhere....

I feel for you, but I doubt that it will get any better.

Matt

I wish you were closer to Mini of Pittsburgh - they've been great, really. It's almost worth the drive.

I've actually achieved great results by showing up in the showroom on a nice Saturday morning (or find out which evening they're open late) and politely telling potential customers what they're in for. I actually did this in a rather loud voice once, when I was younger and stupider... cleared a whole Ford showroom but hung around until my Taurus was fixed the 4th time.

A more mature (but still passive-aggressive) solution is to tell them you'll politely wait for the car to be fixed. Then you HAVE to be there. It's a complete and total waste of time, but dealing with bad dealers can be just that, may as well make it productive and fun, and help your fellow man by telling them what to expect.

I wish you and your mini well. Definitely DO open that repair shop in town - don't just cater to Minis though, there's bucks to be made in having a great foreign car repair and modification shop. Good luck!

That seems like a great idea and Im referring to the 1st one. I did do your 2nd idea on saturday and they still took their sweet a$$ time. We arrived there at 8:00am on the dot and finally left 1/2 before they closed at 5:00pm. Obviously waiting for the repairs is just as bad. The service dept. just does not have good customer service. If I have someone in my shop that is waiting, I get their vehicle in right away b/c I dont want them sitting around for hours. GET THEM IN, GET THEM OUT!!!! That will make them and you happy. I guess Markel doesnt understand that concept. Must be a new one for them.

By calling MINI USA it will affect the dealerships CSI rating. That will affect how many cars they get form MINI. If they continue to get bad CSI rating from others (as they will) it could cause them to lose the MINI franchise. You could also find out who the owner of the dealership is. You may have to call other dealerships to find this out. He may care more if he knows about this. Hope this helps.

I'm really sceptical of this...

Mini has so few dealers that they aren't going to shoot themselves in the foot by selling less cars through the dealers they have. It may work on the margin if someone else wants the franchise and has the money to buy it, but the details of the franchise contract would come into play there, and it sure is a big hassle to shut down and start up a new one, or to sell and change ownership. I've only heard of one dealership changing hands....

Now if there were dealers all over town this might make a difference, but with so few, it won't do diddly.

Well, the sales manager (who may not know jack ****) was worried about selling me a car because he knew I was angry about the sales process and he didn't want me to gank them with my CSI form. He specifically told me that he did NOT want to lose any incoming vehicles over the long term....even if it meant not selling my car to me.

I still haven't filled out the form, but it is not looking good. I thought I had cooled down enough, but seeing this kind of crap is pushing me towards my initial thoughts on this dealership.

Hey Matt, you wanna bet that MINIUSA has a waiting list of BMW dealerships wanting to take on a Mini franchise?
